The program emphasizes\u202fself\u2011awareness, relationship management, and\u202fpractical leadership skills\u202ffor navigating common workplace challenges.\u202fCompletion of this certificate merits <strong>six months of credit<\/strong> when applying for related positions at the UW.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will develop the following capabilities:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Self\u2011Awareness\u202f&amp;\u202fUse of Authority<\/strong>. Build awareness of personal leadership style and confidence in using authority and influence effectively.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Strengths, Communication &amp; Conflict Styles<\/strong>. Identify individual and team strengths, communication preferences and conflict styles, and apply strategies to manage relationships productively.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Organizational Dynamics at the UW<\/strong>. Understand the UW system, including how structure, policy and institutional principles shape authority and\u202fdecision-making.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Performance Management &amp; Motivation<\/strong>. Effectively manage performance, motivate teams and\u202fsupport a diverse workforce through clear expectations and accountability.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Engagement\u202f&amp;\u202fCollaborative Work<\/strong>. Set\u202fexpectations, and\u202fapply tools and techniques,\u202fto plan and lead effective meetings that drive\u202fcollaboration,\u202fclarity, engagement and\u202fresults.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Problem Solving in Complex Environments<\/strong>. Navigate and resolve complex\u202fpeople-centered\u202fchallenges in dynamic organizational settings.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Building\u202fWorkplace Culture<\/strong>. Foster\u202fan\u202finclusive workplace culture that supports morale, trust and organizational goals.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Curriculum\"><\/span>Curriculum<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The curriculum includes foundational core courses, a selection of electives and a capstone project. The core courses and electives must be completed within two years, with an additional six months allowed for the capstone project. Learning will be delivered via a mix of live and self-paced classes developed by POD, cohort check-ins, curated LinkedIn Learning content and other resources.<\/p>\n<h3>Core courses<\/h3>\n<p>Participants must complete all of the following core courses (about 26-30 hours total):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-teams=\"true\">Core Strengths: Results Through Relationships<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Implementing Equitable Hiring Practices<\/li>\n<li>Learning to Lead<\/li>\n<li>Making Meetings Work<\/li>\n<li>Managing Corrective Action<\/li>\n<li>Managing Employee Performance<\/li>\n<li>SLP Supervisor Orientation<\/li>\n<li>Tactical Leadership<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Electives<\/h3>\n<p>Enrollees must complete 18 credits of electives in the following topic areas, with a minimum of one class from each area (the number of classes will depend on chosen electives but could range from a total of four to ten elective classes). Multiple live and self-paced class options will be provided for each topic area.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Communication\/Collaboration<\/li>\n<li>Inclusion and Belonging<\/li>\n<li>Organizational Acumen<\/li>\n<li>Personal Effectiveness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Capstone<\/h3>\n<p>After completing the core and elective requirements, enrollees must complete a capstone project within six months. The capstone project should\u202fdemonstrate\u202fyour ability to apply concepts, tools and skills learned throughout the certificate program.<\/p>\n<p>The project should represent at least six hours of effort and should:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Solve a problem or improve a process,<\/li>\n<li>Create a useful resource or tool,<\/li>\n<li>Gather information and generate recommendations,<\/li>\n<li>Support a team, department, or organizational initiative, and\/or<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate practical application of learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Enrollment\"><\/span>Enrollment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Enrollment applications will be processed in the order received.<\/p>\n<p>Enrollment will be limited to ensure reasonable capacity in POD classes. Enrollment will be contingent upon not having completed this POD certificate in the past, completion of the enrollment form, and successful payment of the enrollment fee ($510 if using a UW worktag; $590 if paying by check, due to a mandatory institutional overhead fee). This fee includes a required Strength Deployment Inventory assessment.<\/p>\n<p>The enrollment fee will be processed upon acceptance.
