Benefits are normally not available if you are terminated for gross misconduct.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"qualifying-criteria-for-washington-state-unemployment\">Qualifying criteria for Washington state unemployment<\/h4>\n<p>Under Washington state law, you are eligible for benefits if you have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>worked for at least 680 hours in the state of Washington during the \u201cbase year\u201d (the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters) in a position included in Washington\u2019s unemployment program;<\/li>\n<li>worked in Washington sometime in the last 18 months (unless you were in the military or worked for the federal government); and<\/li>\n<li>lost your job through no fault of your own.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Review ESD\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/esd.wa.gov\/get-financial-help\/unemployment-benefits\/basic-eligibility-requirements\">Basic eligibility requirements<\/a> to learn about the factors considered when ESD evaluates eligibility for employment benefits.<\/p>\n<h5>Student employees and Washington state unemployment<\/h5>\n<p>Student employees are typically exempt from Washington state unemployment under <a href=\"https:\/\/app.leg.wa.gov\/RCW\/default.aspx?cite=50.44.040\">RCW 50.44.040<\/a> and UW does not report wage or hour information for student employees to ESD.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uwhr-toc-top-btn\"><a href=\"#toc\">Return to top<\/a><\/p><h4 id=\"amount\">Amount<\/h4>\n<p>The amount of the Washington state unemployment benefit is determined by ESD and can be estimated using this\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/esd.wa.gov\/get-financial-help\/unemployment-benefits\/estimate-your-benefit\">ESD tool<\/a>. Individuals eligible for unemployment report any earnings as part of a \u201cweekly claim,\u201d including payments from UW such as wages (including paid time off), which may reduce the weekly benefit amount.<\/p>\n<p>For new unemployment claims filed on or after July 6, 2025, the minimum weekly benefit amount is $366 and the maximum weekly benefit amount is $1,152<\/p>\n<p class=\"uwhr-toc-top-btn\"><a href=\"#toc\">Return to top<\/a><\/p><h4 id=\"how-to-file-for-unemployment-benefits\">How to file for unemployment benefits<\/h4>\n<p>To apply for unemployment benefits, follow the application process on\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/esd.wa.gov\/get-financial-help\/unemployment-benefits\">ESD Unemployment benefits webpage<\/a>.\u202fBefore applying, gather the information you\u2019ll need. Visit the\u202f <a href=\"https:\/\/esd.wa.gov\/get-financial-help\/unemployment-benefits\/applying-unemployment-benefits\/how-apply-unemployment-benefits\/information-you-need-when-you-apply\">Have this information ready<\/a> \u202fwebpage or see page 1 of the\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/esd.wa.gov\/media\/pdf\/152\/en-unemployed-workers-handbookpdf\/download?inline\">Unemployed Worker Handbook\u202f<\/a>to prepare.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/employeehelp.workday.uw.edu\/your-pay-taxes\/paycheck-info\/how-to-read-your-payslip\/\">Use your payslip<\/a>\u202fto sum the total of your gross wages and to average how many hours you work on a weekly basis. You can enter gross wages per hour, week, month, or year.<\/p>\n<p>When asked to identify your employer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>UW employees (including UWMC Montlake, UWMC Northwest, and UW Medicine Primary Care)<\/strong>\u202fuse Federal tax ID 91-6001537 and Employment Security Reference Number 000990180003<\/li>\n<li><strong>Harborview<\/strong>\u202femployees use Federal tax ID 91-6001537 and Employment Security Reference Number 000992172009<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"uwhr-toc-top-btn\"><a href=\"#toc\">Return to top<\/a><\/p><h4 id=\"unemployment-benefits-for-employees-working-outside-of-washington\">Unemployment benefits for employees working outside of Washington<\/h4>\n<p>Employees who work outside of the state of Washington may be eligible for unemployment benefit programs that are administered in other states. The employee\u2019s position work location determines where the employee applies for benefits and whether the University reimburses that state for such benefits or pays a quarterly tax. Review the table below to locate your state\u2019s unemployment benefits program.<\/p>\n<h5>Reimbursable states<\/h5>\n<p>Employees whose position work location is one of the Reimbursable states listed in the table below have their hours and wages reported to that state. If a UW employee applies for and receives unemployment benefits from a Reimbursable state, that state will bill the University for reimbursement.<\/p>\n<h5>Tax Paid states<\/h5>\n<p>Employees whose position work location is one of the Tax Paid states listed in the table below have their hours and wages reported to that state. If a UW employee applies for and receives unemployment benefits from a Tax Paid state, the cost of those benefits is covered by that state. However, the University pays a quarterly tax to these states.<\/p>\n<h5>Report to Washington states<\/h5>\n<p>Employees whose position work location is in a state that reports to Washington, have their hours and wages reported to the WA ESD. If a UW employee applies for and receives unemployment benefits from the WA ESD, WA ESD bills the University for reimbursement.<\/p>\n\n<table id=\"tablepress-2\" class=\"tablepress
