Recaps are published online on the <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/labor\/academic-and-student-unions\/uaw-ase\/ase-negotiation-updates\">UW Labor Relations website.<\/a><\/p>\n<h4><strong>UW Initial Proposals<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Article 20-<\/strong> <strong>Non-Discrimination and Harassment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Employer proposed to add that the Equity Survey that UAW and the University jointly administer which focuses on ASE-specific concerns would be subject to the University&#8217;s Policy on the Appropriate Collection and Use of Demographic Data for Job Applicants and University Personnel. The Employer proposed to add that the website that publicizes the location of every all-gender bathroom on campus would be updated annually.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>UW Counter Proposals<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Article 8 \u2013 Grievance Procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In response to UAW, the Employer proposed language that the parties may agree to skip Step Three of the grievance procedure (Mediation). In response to UAW, the Employer proposed language that the parties may mutually agree to use a mediator from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) or other mutually agreed upon mediation provider. The employer added language that the cost of the mediation, if applicable, would be borne by the moving party.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>UAW ASE Counter Proposals<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Article 1 \u2013 Purpose and Intent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In response to the Employer, UAW proposed to change the reference to \u201cthe Handbook of the University of Washington\u201d to now read \u201cfaculty code and governance, Board of Regents governance, employment and administrative policies, and presidential orders of the University of Washington\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Article 4 \u2013 Appointment and Reappointment Notification and Job Description<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In response to the Employer, UAW proposed language around offers of 50% FTE appointments for positions that are not open hire to be commensurate with the department\u2019s normative time to degree, including summer, or equivalent compensation. For open hire positions, the Union proposed ASEs would receive one-year appointments, including summer, or equivalent compensation. In response to the Employer, UAW proposed that incoming students would be notified of descriptions regarding the upcoming year\u2019s appointments no later than June 1<sup>st<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Article 8 \u2013 Grievance Procedure<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In response to the Employer, UAW incorporated language proposed by the Employer that that the parties may mutually agree to use a mediator from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) or other mutually agreed upon mediation provider.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Article 20-<\/strong> <strong>Non-Discrimination and Harassment<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In response to the Employer, UAW incorporated language proposed by the Employer that that the website that publicizes the location of every all-gender bathroom on campus would be updated annually. UAW amended their proposed language regarding signage indicating all-gender bathroom locations from \u201cpermanent signage will be posted next to every single-gender bathroom\u201d to \u201cpermanent signage may be posted next to every single-gender bathroom\u201d.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Next Steps <\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The next UW &amp; UAW ASE bargaining session is scheduled for March 15, 2024.
