Recaps are published online on the <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/labor\/staff-unions\/sag-aftra\/negotiation-updates\">UW Labor Relations website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4>Tentative Agreements<\/h4>\n<p>The parties verbally tentatively agreed to the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Article 4 &#8211; Prayer and Lactation Accommodations\n<ul>\n<li>Added reference to relevant Administrative Policy Statement (APS 46.7)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Article 6 &#8211; Grievance and Arbitration Procedure\n<ul>\n<li>Increased the time that the Employer has to respond to a Step Two meeting from 15 days to 30.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Article 22 &#8211; Vacation Leave\n<ul>\n<li>Increased vacation accrual rates of employees in overtime eligible positions to be equivalent to vacation accrual rates for employees in overtime exempt positions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Article 29 &#8211; Length of Service\n<ul>\n<li>Added language stating that employees who enter into the bargaining unit from other state agencies and institutions of higher education would start earning layoff seniority from the first day of coverage under the UW\/SAG-AFTRA CBA.<\/li>\n<li>Removed language stating that length of service is used throughout this Agreement for purposes of accruing benefits, including but not limited to vacation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The parties verbally tentatively agreed to housekeeping edits on the following provisions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mission Statement and Preamble<\/li>\n<li>Article 5 &#8211; Flexible Work Agreements\/Arrangements<\/li>\n<li>Article 18 &#8211; Safety and Health<\/li>\n<li>Article 19 \u2013 Benefits<\/li>\n<li>Article 21 &#8211; Holidays<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The parties verbally tentatively agreed to current contract language on the following articles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Article 1 \u2013 Union Recognition<\/li>\n<li>Article 2 \u2013 Management Rights<\/li>\n<li>Article 8 \u2013 Work Week, Work Day, Meal Breaks, and Rest Breaks<\/li>\n<li>Article 10 \u2013 Rest Between Shifts<\/li>\n<li>Article 11 \u2013 Minimum Call<\/li>\n<li>Article 12 \u2013 On-Call<\/li>\n<li>Article 17 \u2013 Professional Development<\/li>\n<li>Article 23 \u2013 Minimum Terms and Conditions<\/li>\n<li>Article 24 \u2013 Subordination of Agreement and Savings Clause<\/li>\n<li>Article 25 \u2013 Successors and Assigns<\/li>\n<li>Article 26 \u2013 No Strike\/Lockout<\/li>\n<li>Article 27 \u2013 Newsroom Firewall<\/li>\n<li>Article 28 \u2013 Corrective Action\/Dismissal<\/li>\n<li>Article 30 \u2013 Layoff<\/li>\n<li>Article 31 \u2013 Rehire Rights<\/li>\n<li>Article 33 \u2013 Postings<\/li>\n<li>Article 35 \u2013 Union Representatives and Stewards<\/li>\n<li>Article 37 \u2013 Meal Policy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>SAG-AFTRA Counter Proposals<\/h4>\n<h5>Article 15 \u2013 Fellowships and Interns<\/h5>\n<p>In response to the Employer, the Union proposed that fellowships would be limited to 12 months. They also proposed that the language stating that fellows would not be used to cover absences or illnesses be modified to state that fellows would not be used to cover long-term absences or illnesses.<\/p>\n<h5>Article 16 \u2013 Independent Contractors<\/h5>\n<p>In response to the Employer\u2019s proposal, the Union proposed to modify language stating that the Employer would provide at least 30 days\u2019 notice prior to the start of independently contracted work, adding that 30 days\u2019 notice should be provided if possible. In cases where such notice is not possible, the Union proposed that the Employer would provide notice of independently contracted work within 15 days of that work starting.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h5>Side Letter \u2013 UPASS<\/h5>\n<p>The Union accepted the Employer\u2019s proposal to remove the FTE restriction on those receiving the fully subsidized UPASS. They also proposed to strike the expiration date from this provision.<\/p>\n<h4>UW Counter Proposals<\/h4>\n<h5>Article 9 \u2013 Overtime<\/h5>\n<p>In response to the Union, the Employer proposed new language clarifying that overtime-exempt employees are not covered by federal or state overtime laws and do not receive overtime compensation or compensatory time off. They also proposed to remove the list of overtime exempt positions from the body of the contract.<\/p>\n<h5>Article 14 \u2013 Temporary Hourly Fill-In Employees<\/h5>\n<p>In response to the Union\u2019s proposal that the Union be notified of all temporary hourly fill-ins, the Employer proposed language stating that the usage of temporary hourly fill-in employees may also be an appropriate agenda item for Joint Union Management committee meetings.<\/p>\n<h5>Article 32 &#8211; Notification of New Hires<\/h5>\n<p>The Employer accepted the Union\u2019s proposal to notify the Union of transfers out of the bargaining unit using a Status Notification Form.
