Recaps are published online on the <u><a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/labor\/academic-and-student-unions\/aft\/negotiation-updates\">UW Labor Relations website<\/a><\/u>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UW Initial Proposals<\/strong><br \/>\nOn the following provisions, the Employer proposed to maintain current contract language:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Preamble<\/li>\n<li>Article 3 \u2013 Union Security<\/li>\n<li>Article 8 \u2013 Management Rights<\/li>\n<li>Article 12 \u2013 University Suspended Operations<\/li>\n<li>Article 17 \u2013 Benefits<\/li>\n<li>Article 19 \u2013 Performance Appraisal<\/li>\n<li>Article 20 \u2013 Labor Management Committee<\/li>\n<li>Article 22 \u2013 Complete Agreement and Conformity to Law<\/li>\n<li>Article 23 \u2013 Successor Agreement<\/li>\n<li>Article 25 \u2013 Academic Freedom<\/li>\n<li>MOU \u2013 Work Assignment Roster<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Employer proposed to strike the following out-of-date\/implemented MOUs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MOU \u2013 Wages<\/li>\n<li>MOU \u2013 Lump Sum Payment<\/li>\n<li>MOU \u2013 Contract Extension<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Article 6 \u2013 Probationary Period<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Employer proposed language to indicate that the IELP Director would have the responsibility of attending Probation Completion meetings, determining whether Extension Lecturers move out of the Probationary Period, and informing Extension Lecturers. Language was also updated from \u201cpreference sheet\u201d to \u201cpreference survey\u201d for clarity. The employer suggested updating \u201cpreference sheet\u201d to \u201cpreference survey\u201d throughout the CBA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Article 7 \u2013 Grievance and Arbitration Procedures<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Employer proposed language that updates titles of Labor Relations personnel to reflect current job titles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Article 11 \u2013 Reassigned Time, Lead Teacher and Specialist Positions<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Employer proposed language that shifts gendered pronouns to gender-neutral language. The Employer suggested maintaining gender-neutral terminology throughout the CBA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Article 13 \u2013 Personnel Files<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Employer proposed language to include leave-without-pay requests, updated appointment letters, and verifications of employment in the Head File. The Employer also proposed changes that would indicate that the contents of employee files are deleted after 3 years as specified by the records retention schedule. The Employer also proposed language that shifts gendered pronouns to gender-neutral language.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Article 14 \u2013 Corrective Action and Formal Discipline<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Employer proposed language that shifts gendered pronouns to gender-neutral language.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Article 24 \u2013 Duration<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Employer proposed a duration of 3 years for the new contract.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AFT Initial Proposals<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Article 19 \u2013 Performance Appraisal<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Union proposed language regarding frequency of teaching observations to specify that Extension Lecturers who were hired by IELP for more than 12 years ago would have teaching observations every 5 years rather than every 3 years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next Steps<\/strong><br \/>\nThe next AFT and UW bargaining session is scheduled for Monday, May 2, 2022 and will be held virtually.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This recap details the second virtual session for the renewal of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the University of Washington and AFT.
