This was the second session to be facilitated by a State-appointed mediator. Recaps are published online on the <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/labor\/unions\/uw-housestaff-association\/negotiation-updates\">UW Labor Relations website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tentative Agreements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The parties tentatively agreed to the following articles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Article 5 \u2013 Dues Deduction and UWHA Membership\n<ul>\n<li>New language would allow UWHA to create an introductory document that would be made available to candidates on the GME website, which would be subject to approval by the Employer. The document would be provided to programs, which may be included in interview packets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Article 17 \u2013 Management Rights\n<ul>\n<li>The parties tentatively agreed to retain current contract language.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Employer Counter Proposals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Professional Liability Coverage \u2013 <\/strong>In response to the Union\u2019s proposal, the Employer would like professional liability coverage to be referenced with the University Policy Directory on Indemnification of University Personnel, as it has typically been covered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pregnancy Accommodation<\/strong> \u2013 In response to the Union\u2019s proposal, the Employer maintained language encouraging residents to seek needed reasonable accommodations if they are pregnant and would refer to APS 46.7 for all updated language for Reasonable Accommodations of Pregnant Employees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wellness and Counseling Services<\/strong> \u2013 In response to the Union\u2019s proposal, the Employer proposed to maintain language stating that residents would schedule sessions that would not impact patient care and that programs would make a good faith effort to release the resident from clinical duties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meals<\/strong> \u2013 In response to the Union\u2019s proposal, the Employer proposed to maintain language stating that GME would not make any meal policy changes without providing notice to the union and an opportunity to bargain.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Military Leave \u2013 <\/strong>In response to the Union\u2019s proposal, the Employer maintained its proposal to state University policy APS 45.4 to encompass all of the most updated information related to military leave, rather than reiterate the policy within the article.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Union Counter Proposals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Non-Discrimination \u2013 <\/strong>In response to the Employer\u2019s proposal, the Union proposed that complaints that are filed by residents would be responded to by the GME office within 14 days. The grievance process in accordance with Article 7 of the agreement was added and would be another path for complaints.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next Steps <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The next UW and UWHA bargaining session is scheduled for January 28.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background This recap details the twenty-first session for the renewal of the collective bargaining agreement between the UW and UWHA.
