Recaps are published online on the <a href=\"http:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/labor\/unions\/wsna\/negotiation-updates\">UW Labor Relations website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WSNA Proposals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nondiscrimination<\/strong> &#8211; In response to UW\u2019s proposal, WSNA largely rejected the UW\u2019s proposal to standardize nondiscrimination language amongst collective bargaining agreements hospital wide.\u00a0 WSNA did propose incorporating language from UW\u2019s proposal related to certain protected categories and to increase possible resolution options for a broader range of complaint types.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Probationary Period <\/strong>&#8211; In response to UW\u2019s proposal, WSNA agreed to modify the definition of the probationary period to account for leave taken for military service.\u00a0 WSNA maintained their proposal to extend probation for any leave taken on a day-for-day basis, rejecting the UW\u2019s proposal to extend the period until the employee\u2019s next scheduled work day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Holiday &amp; Vacation Leave <\/strong>\u2013 WSNA maintained their proposed to keep the holiday and vacation provisions together in the contract.\u00a0 WSNA maintained their proposals to include holiday proration calculations for part time RNs, and for union members to be able to choose when to request and use their accrued holiday credit.<\/p>\n<p>WSNA integrated UW\u2019s proposal providing that holiday credit would be used or cashed out by June 30 of each year.<strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>WSNA integrated UW\u2019s counter proposal to adjust the time frames for submission of peak period vacation requests to February and July, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MOU: Negotiation Team<\/strong> &#8211; In response to UW\u2019s proposal, WSNA proposed language stating that they would make a good faith effort to recruit team members from different units.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UW Proposals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Implementation Cost<\/strong> \u2013 The UW provided a summary of implementation costs for the union\u2019s monetary proposals.\u00a0 The union\u2019s proposals would cost approximately $71.3 million over the 2017-2019 contract.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Work Week\/Period <\/strong>\u2013 UW proposed to eliminate the work period option of 160 hours within 28 consecutive days, to allow the employer more flexibility in scheduling.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Layoff and Displacement Options<\/strong> \u2013 In response to WSNA\u2019s proposal, UW incorporated language indicating that the employer would consider a nurse\u2019s current shift when identifying funded vacant positions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next Steps <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The next UW-WSNA bargaining session is scheduled for June 8.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background This recap details the 4th session for the renewal of the collective bargaining agreement between the UW and WSNA.
