Recaps are published online on the <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/labor\/academic-and-student-unions\/aft\/negotiation-updates\">UW Labor Relations website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Employer Counter Proposals<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>The Employer presented a package proposal\u00a0in which all provisions would need to be accepted in their entirety. Package highlights are outlined below.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Article 2: Definitions<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As part of this package proposal, the Union would agree to current contract language.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Article 3: Union Security<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As part of this package proposal, the Employer would agree to the Union\u2019s initial proposal as presented during the <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/labor\/2026\/01\/29\/uw-aft-negotiations-recap-for-january-22-and-january-29-2026\">January 29 bargaining session<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Article 4: Union Rights<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As part of this package proposal, the Employer proposed removing the requirement to publish the agreement within thirty (30) days of ratification. Regarding reassigned time, the Employer proposed a standard rate of five percent (5%), unless otherwise modified by the agreement. Under this proposal, the reassigned time position would increase to thirty-three percent (33%) starting the first day of the quarter in which successor bargaining begins, and reverting to five percent (5%) the first day of the quarter following ratification.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, the Employer proposed that the Union would provide notification of reassignment positions when employees submit their teaching preferences for the quarter in which successor bargaining begins.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Article 9: Work Assignment Roster<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As part of this package proposal, the Union would agree to the Employer\u2019s counterproposal as presented during the <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/labor\/2026\/02\/23\/aft-negotiations-recap-for-february-23-2026\">February 23 bargaining session<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Article 16: Job Descriptions-Workload<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As part of this package proposal, the Union would agree to the Employer\u2019s counterproposal as presented during the <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/labor\/2026\/03\/19\/aft-negotiations-recap-for-march-19-2026\">March 19 bargaining session<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Article 18: Professional Development<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As part of this package proposal, the Employer proposed new language stating that professional development funds would be made available to Extension Lecturers on the same basis as Continuum College staff.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Article 19: Performance Appraisal<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As part of this package proposal, the Union would agree to the Employer\u2019s counterproposal as presented during the <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/labor\/2026\/03\/19\/aft-negotiations-recap-for-march-19-2026\">March 19 bargaining session.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Article 21:\u00a0Compensation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>21.2 Additional Compensation<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As part of this package proposal, the Employer proposed new compensation provisions for additional hourly work as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Substitute Teaching:<\/strong>\u00a0$75 per hour<\/li>\n<li><strong>Test Proctoring:<\/strong> $37.50 per hour<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lecture or Presentation on an IELP course:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>A lecture or presentation prepared in advance for one class period (or hour): $150<\/li>\n<li>A videotaped exam lecture prepared in advance: $150 per hour<\/li>\n<li>A lecture or presentation prepared in advance for half a class period (or 30 minutes): $75<\/li>\n<li>A non-prepared Q&amp;A session for one class period (or hour): $75<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Non-curricular projects:<\/strong> $37.50 per hour<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>21.5 Initial Base Salary Determination Upon Hire<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As part of this package proposal, the Employer proposed the following minimum base salary ranges for Extension Lecturers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$4,453 per month, for those with 1-10 years of experience.<\/li>\n<li>$4,577 per month, for those with 10-15 years of experience.<\/li>\n<li>$4,825 per month, for those with 15+ years of experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Article 23: Successor Agreement<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As part of this package proposal, the Union would agree to current contract language.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Article 24: Duration<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As part of this package proposal, the Employer proposed a three (3) year placeholder for the duration of the contract.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Next Steps<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The next UW &amp; AFT bargaining session is scheduled for May 14, 2026, and will be held in person.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background This recap details the eighth in person bargaining session for the negotiation for the collective bargaining agreement between AFT and UW.
