Recaps are published online on the <a href=\"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/labor\/academic-and-student-unions\/aft\/negotiation-updates\">UW Labor Relations website.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Union Counter Proposals<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h5><strong>Article 18: <\/strong><strong>Professional Development<\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5><strong>18.2. UWC2 Professional Development<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>In response to the Employer\u2019s initial proposal, the Union agreed to strike through current contract language that designates the \u201cExecutive Council\u201d as the body responsible for determining annual adjustments to UWC2 professional development funding and replacing it with the current name of \u201cSenior Leadership Group\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Union proposed to include new language stating that as of March 2025, all non-essential travel and training funds are frozen and when the freeze is lifted, professional development funds would be made available to Extension Lecturers on the same basis as other University of Washington employees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>18.5. In-Service<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In response to the Employer\u2019s initial proposal, the Union accepted the Employer\u2019s deletion of this section in the article.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Employer Initial Proposals<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h5><strong>Article 21: <\/strong><strong>Compensation<\/strong><\/h5>\n<h5><strong>21.2 Additional Compensation<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The Employer\u2019s initial proposal included a strike through of the word \u2018full-time\u2019, while retaining current contract language stating that Extension Lecturers who perform additional work would continue to receive additional compensation. The Employer proposed maintaining current contract language on the following types of additional compensation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Substitute Teaching:<\/strong> $70 per hour.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Test Proctoring:<\/strong>\u00a0$35 per hour.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Test Rating:<\/strong> $75 per hour.\n<ul>\n<li>ITA appeals sessions, paid in increments of 3:\n<ul>\n<li>$75 per hour for 1-3 appeals,<\/li>\n<li>$150 an hour for 4-5 appeals,<\/li>\n<li>$225 an hour for 7-9 appeals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>ENGL 105 Final Exam Rating: $150 per class.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lecture or Presentation on an IELP course:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>A lecture or presentation prepared in advance for one class period (or hour): $140.<\/li>\n<li>A videotaped exam lecture prepared in advance up: $140 an hour.<\/li>\n<li>A lecture or presentation prepared in advance for half a class period (or 30 minutes): $70.<\/li>\n<li>A lecture or presentation prepared in advance for half a class period (or 30 minutes): $70.<\/li>\n<li>A non-prepared Q&amp;A session for one class period (or hour): $70.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>A lecture or presentation prepared in advance and including Q&amp;A given in I-TEFL or any other English Language Teacher training program:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>$195 for 60 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>$260 for 90 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>$390 for 120 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Non-curricular projects:<\/strong>\u00a0$35 per hour.<\/li>\n<li><strong>ENGL 105:<\/strong>\u00a0$75 per hour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Employer partially accepted the Union\u2019s proposed language that Extension Lecturers\u2019 participation in required University of Washington employment trainings will be fully compensated as a part of their regular duties. The Employer proposed language that for employees without a quarterly or hourly assignment, they would be compensated at $75 per hour.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>21.4 Salary Increase Eligibility.<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The Employer proposed removing references to the 2023 performance\u2011based salary increases due to the language being outdated. Additionally, the Employer proposed to reduce the requirement of 33% to 15% to be eligible for performance-based consideration.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>21.5 Initial Base Salary Determination Upon Hire<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The Employer proposed raising the minimum base salary for Extension Lecturers as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$4,366 per month, up from $4,158 for those with 1-10 years of experience.<\/li>\n<li>$4,487 per month, up from $4,274 for those with 10-15 years of experience.<\/li>\n<li>$4,730 per month, up from $4,505 for those with 15+ years of experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Tentative Agreements<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The parties tentatively agreed to maintain current contract language for the following articles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Article 11: <\/strong><strong>Reassigned Time Lead Teacher<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Side Letter: <\/strong><strong>U-PASS<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Next Steps<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The next UW &amp; AFT bargaining session is scheduled for May 5, 2026, and will be held in person.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background This recap details the seventh in person bargaining session for the negotiation for the collective bargaining agreement between AFT and UW.
