DEFINITION
Direct heavy equipment operators and utility maintenance workers in the operation and maintenance of material-moving equipment.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Report to a supervisor in the operation and maintenance of heavy earth-moving and material-moving equipment. Lead heavy equipment operator, helpers, and utility maintenance workers.
TYPICAL WORK
Act as lead and participate in the operation of trucks, tractors, powered cranes, shovels, bulldozers, carry-alls, snowplows, graders and similar equipment;
Excavate with crane or shovel or move earth with a bulldozer according to specifications determined by a civil engineer, or lead these functions;
Trim, back-fill and smooth areas to specified grades;
Direct the lifting or moving of heavy machinery or materials and the loading of trucks;
Direct equipment maintenance; lead over routine and emergency repairs on equipment;
Perform related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - UW Contract Classified
One year's full-time experience as a journey heavy equipment operator, or equivalent. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Examination Requirements:
A job element examination (including written, E & T and oral components) scored on the basis of job related experience, training, skill, ability and other elements which are established through job analysis.
