CLASS SERIES CONCEPT

Within the Institute for Health Metrics (IHME), develop and/or administer the datacenter infrastructure and health databases that are critical to IHME’s global health research activities

BASIC FUNCTION

Provide technical expertise in database or datacenter infrastructure development and/or administration, requiring knowledge of database software technologies and principles.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, develop and maintain database applications and systems and associated software and tools. Integrate complex database system and application technologies into reliable and effective platforms for achieving IHME’s technical research goals.

TYPICAL WORK

Build, monitor, and optimize database systems that meet IHME research needs, meet all security requirements and provide the platform to share, manage and manipulate small and large clusters of health data as needed;

Build and modify database tables, views, procedures and functions that support storing, accessing and sharing small and large clusters of global health research data;

Perform technical evaluation, installation, maintenance, and support of database systems and software;

Maintain and support the development, testing and production of new or enhanced database environments, schema and code based on research needs, and performance and security requirements;

Install and test new versions of database software;

Test system changes and assist with the development of test plans for usability, performance, and adherence to system requirements;

Create processes to automate administrative tasks within database systems;

Build and implement scripts to move data to external publishing servers;

Document system changes in accordance with organizational change control procedures;

Manage and control database access permissions;

Develop, manage, test and document data backup and recovery plans;

Provide timely and comprehensive user support via help desk ticket resolution; and

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics or related and three years of related experience

OR

Equivalent combination of education/experience.

CLASS SERVICE EXEMPTION

Senior Computer Systems and Network Programming.
