Colin Connors is employed as Electronic Media Producer in the Department of Scandinavian Studies at .5FTE. Colin handles public-facing communications for the department, but also has produced a podcast for the department, Crossing North. The podcast has been a success, generating many listens and lots of valuable conversation during the years that Colin has produced it.<\/p>\n

Tell us why you are nominating this individual<\/h2>\n

It was a new venture for our department to take on producing a podcast. We needed the technical expertise as well as subject area expertise. Colin’s background brings these together. He is trained in AV production and he has a Ph.D. in Scandinavian Studies. He has now produced 28 episodes of the show, which have received some 20,000 listens. Colin’s combination of expertise, and his successful follow through in making a consistent, quality production has been an important new direction for our department. We have never had any audio production before, nor have we had the kind of public-facing, online material that Colin has produced.<\/p>\n

What makes this nominee worthy of the DSA?<\/h2>\n

The podcast has been used by our instructors, it has given us a forum to publish interviews with guests of the department, and it has contributed to the College of Arts and Sciences and the UW’s reputation for cutting-edge activity. These outcomes have energized faculty and students alike, by getting them involved in producing the podcast and by sharing the podcast with a broad listenership.<\/p>\n

Was there anything else?<\/h2>\n

Listen to Crossing North<\/a> – a podcast about Nordic and Baltic society and culture. Episodes feature stories and interviews with local UW community members, students, and faculty, and with guests from the Nordic and Baltic countries, including artists, scholars, journalists, and ambassadors.<\/p>\n
