Typical Responsibilities<\/strong>
\nApply discretion and independent judgment to manage all aspects of multiple publication or communication projects for University clients, including writing, editing, design, production, marketing, and distribution. Participate in meetings with academic and administrative staff to develop communication objectives and to define target audiences. Plan, direct, and coordinate the publication process. Track budgetary milestones of each project. Acts as client liaison with outside graphic design companies, advertising agencies, and\/or publishers. Review and correct proofs. Ensure project adheres to copyright laws. May contribute to the development of publication content (i.e. text or graphics).<\/p>\n

Supervisory Responsibility<\/strong>
\nPositions in this series are not required to supervise staff.<\/p>\n

\nFLSA overtime status is based on the position’s duties and responsibilities, and whether or not the position’s gross salary is less than the federal FLSA salary basis test or the Washington state salary basis test, whichever is higher. Professional Staff Exemption<\/strong>
\nGraphic Arts and Publications: Individuals having prescribed academic preparation or special training in the fields of graphic arts, printing and publications, and who are assigned to a major academic or administrative unit and who are responsible for the development and design of scholarly or related publications, or the full range of printing and publication activities.<\/p>\n

\nIf the primary focus of the position is writing, communications, and marketing, the Public Information Specialist may be a more appropriate payroll title. If the primary focus of the position is on determining the look, feel, and tone of assigned publications and managing the publication process, Editor may be a more appropriate payroll title. If the primary focus of the position is the production coordination on a digital press, the Production Coordinator may be a more appropriate payroll title.<\/p>\n
