{"id":7147,"date":"2024-08-08T10:31:16","date_gmt":"2024-08-08T17:31:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=7147"},"modified":"2025-05-22T15:28:33","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T22:28:33","slug":"safety-professional-supervisor","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/safety-professional-supervisor\/","title":{"rendered":"Safety Professional Supervisor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>23667 (E S SEIU 925 Supv)<br \/>\n23668 (NE S SEIU 925 Supv)<br \/>\n23669 (NE H NI SEIU 925 Supv)<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Develop and administer environmental health and accident prevention programs for employee, student, and visitor protection.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, train new employees, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations, and recommend disciplinary action. Assist with budget planning and coordinate staff education activities.<\/p>\n<p>This is a \u201cworking supervisor,\u201d which supervises and also may perform the work of Safety Professional 1 and Safety Professional 2 positions.<\/p>\n<p>Under general direction, develop and administer major components of an institutional safety and hazard control program such as accident investigations and work site surveys for physical safety hazards. Design safety measures based upon independent assessment of hazardous practices or conditions. Develop and conduct safety training programs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Develop and implement safety programs for institutional employees, students, and visitors;<\/p>\n<p>Review reports and evaluate data concerning occupational injuries and public liability accidents; determine necessity and scope of further investigation;<\/p>\n<p>Act as liaison between the institution and state and federal safety personnel;<\/p>\n<p>Review proposals and plan for special events and activities;<\/p>\n<p>Consult with management personnel to recommend solutions to safety problems; review efficacy of safety programs;<\/p>\n<p>Develop and conduct educational safety programs; interpret safety codes and regulations;<\/p>\n<p>May perform the duties of Safety Professional 1 or 2;<\/p>\n<p>Assist with orientation of new staff;<\/p>\n<p>Implement and evaluate orientation programs, provide on-going staff education; and,<\/p>\n<p>Perform other duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Bachelor&#8217;s Degree with major study in safety management, safety engineering, biological or physical science, or closely related field; AND three years of professional experience in environmental health and safety programs.
