examinations.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Under general supervision, prepare patient for and conduct routine, special and complex electroneurodiagnostic and other clinical electrophysiologic examinations, such as evoked potential studies, polygraphic studies, long-term and intraoperative monitoring and functional cortical mapping, including diagnostic and investigative studies in a variety of settings; perform technical interpretation of data and related findings to physicians or neurophysiologist; assist in training END Technologists and others; participate in research activities.

TYPICAL WORK

Review and obtain patient medical information and select appropriate diagnostic testing protocol; set up equipment;

Prepare patients for recordings in a variety of environments including at the bedside, intensive care units and operating room; apply a variety of biopotential electrodes as necessary for special and complex electroneurodiagnostic testing and other electrophysiologic recordings;

Calibrate, evaluate and adjust testing equipment; troubleshoot and repair equipment problems, identify physiologic, instrumental, and environmental artifacts; eliminate electrical interference and other sources of artifact;

Obtain recordings in the operating room, including those from the exposed brain during neurosurgical procedures; perform special procedures including long-term diagnostic and investigative studies such as assessing and reporting patient clinical responses to stimulation of eloquent areas of the cortex;

Record and analyze computer-averaged electrical responses of the eyes, ears, peripheral nerves, spinal cord and brain, as well as responses from muscle groups, to appropriate stimuli in the laboratory, at the patient’s bedside and in the operating room; attend to patient needs, recognizing and initiating medical intervention;

Monitor patients using EEG/video/audio long-term monitoring equipment; review, edit, and select appropriate portions of recordings to display relevant electrical and clinical features; correlate electrographic findings with clinical events;

Adapt procedures to particular clinical circumstances including adding electrodes in non-standard locations and devising special recording techniques;

Collect, analyze and provide technical interpretation of data; report information to physicians and maintain documentation of information provided;

Participate in research projects, conferences and technical meetings;

Perform the work of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists I;

Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Successful completion of an Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist training program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation AND one year of experience in a laboratory performing clinical electroneurodiagnostic tests.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum
