provide leadership for specific program areas and unit functions such as developing education programs, acting as clinical resource for staff, and coordinating daily operations; assist the Nurse Manager to develop, maintain, and evaluate the on-going operations of a clinical area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general supervision, perform specific leadership functions related to clinical practice, education and management such as developing unit goals, orientation programs, and standards of care;<\/p>\n<p>Under general direction, provide patient care and coordination of services through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe therapeutic care.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Provide a role model for staff by demonstrating and documenting for assigned patients completion of:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Assessment and nursing diagnosis of patients;<\/li>\n<li>Care planning;<\/li>\n<li>Implementation of safe nursing care;<\/li>\n<li>Evaluation of patient responses to nursing care;<\/li>\n<li>Patient teaching;<\/li>\n<li>Patient advocacy;<\/li>\n<li>Discharge and transfer planning;<\/li>\n<li>Admission, discharge and transfer processes;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Coordinate patients&#8217; care with other hospital departments and disciplines;<\/p>\n<p>Promote effective communication among staff and patients to assure optimal patient outcomes;<\/p>\n<p>Assist with the planning and\/or implementation of educational programs for staff and patients;<\/p>\n<p>Act as a preceptor for new or experienced employees by assessing learning needs, developing, implementing, and monitoring learning plans and evaluating the learner&#8217;s progress;<\/p>\n<p>Participate in development, implementation and maintenance of the quality assurance program;<\/p>\n<p>Participate in establishing, implementing and evaluating unit goals;<\/p>\n<p>Identify patient care, staff, and resource problems and take necessary steps toward problem resolution;<\/p>\n<p>Provide feedback and guidance to staff; observe, review, and evaluate staff performance;<\/p>\n<p>Assist in the development, maintenance and evaluation of systems to support nursing care delivery such as patient care documentation and emergency response procedures;<\/p>\n<p>Provide input into the development and implementation of the budget;<\/p>\n<p>Serve as the unit charge nurse as assigned;<\/p>\n<p>Participate in unit, departmental and hospital committees as requested;<\/p>\n<p>May utilize clinical expertise to provide planned and spontaneous learning activities to patients, families and staff;<\/p>\n<p>May develop staffing schedule for a specific time period;<\/p>\n<p>May participate in the interview process and recommend selection of staff;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Current license AND two years of professional nursing experience.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LEGAL REQUIREMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Washington.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>01\/03\/1973: New Class<br \/>\n10\/22\/1990: Revise Class\/Title<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<br \/>\nRemove retitled Job Code 8909;
