Obtain, assemble and arrange sterile instruments and supplies used for surgical procedures; pass appropriate instruments, sutures and supplies to surgeon during procedures; and maintain patient safety throughout perioperative care.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general direction, prepare operating room for surgical procedures; obtain, assemble and arrange sterile instruments; and anticipate and pass instruments, sutures and supplies required during operative procedures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Prepare operating room prior to procedures by selecting sterile instruments from autoclave and\/or sterile containers, arranging appropriate instruments for specific procedures, and arranging required equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain aseptic technique;<\/p>\n<p>Anticipate and pass instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedures;<\/p>\n<p>Count and document supplies used during procedures;<\/p>\n<p>Assist with equipment preparation;<\/p>\n<p>Assist with draping patients;<\/p>\n<p>Assist with gowning and gloving physicians;<\/p>\n<p>Assist with clean up after procedures;<\/p>\n<p>Assist with dressing application and patient transfer;<\/p>\n<p>Participate in training and orienting students and staff;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completion of a Surgical Technologist program AND one year of experience assisting clinical staff in a variety of operative procedures in an operating room environment.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>06\/19\/1975: New Class<br \/>\n01\/15\/1981: Revise Class<br \/>\n07\/02\/1990: Revise MQ<br \/>\n11\/12\/1993: Revise Class<br \/>\n05\/09\/2003: Revise MQ<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<br \/>\n01\/01\/2020: SEIU 1199NW UWMC-NW job profiles added effective 01\/01\/2020<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 21298 (NE H SEIU 1199NW UWMC Northwest Professional) 22942 (NE H NI SEIU 1199NW UWMC Northwest Professional BASIC FUNCTION Assist clinical staff in a variety of operative procedures.
