The following is a partial list of instruments commonly utilized by personnel in this class:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Microbial ID and susceptibility instrumentation<\/li>\n<li>Blood culturing instruments and gas chromatography instrumentation<\/li>\n<li>Blood gas analyzers; high performance liquid chromatography instrumentation<\/li>\n<li>Light, phase and fluorescence microscopes<\/li>\n<li>Discrete chemistry and immunoassay analyzers<\/li>\n<li>Electrophoresis and densitometry instrumentation<\/li>\n<li>Mass spectrometry instrumentation<\/li>\n<li>Electronic cell counters; coagulation analyzers<\/li>\n<li>Operate and troubleshoot total laboratory automation (TLA) systems<\/li>\n<li>DNA extraction, DNA sequencing and library preparation instrumentation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Assure that quality control requirements are met to validate test results; record data and maintain continual quality assurance program; utilize electronic quality control system;<\/p>\n<p>Utilize laboratory information system, discipline-specific middleware, as well as institution-based computer systems for test result entry and\/or data acquisition;<\/p>\n<p>Collect specimens; may assist and instruct patients and medical staff in proper specimen collection techniques; may assist physicians in obtaining bone marrow specimens and preparing specimens for evaluation;<\/p>\n<p>Assist in instruction and training of new employees, post-doctoral fellows, residents, and students;<\/p>\n<p>Act as a resource to other lab personnel including Clinical Laboratory Technicians and Specimen Processing Technicians;<\/p>\n<p>Assist in the design, development and evaluation of new procedures\/processes;<\/p>\n<p>Prepare and verify the quality of reagents, standards, and control samples;<\/p>\n<p>Continuing education: keep ASCP or other certification up to date per guidelines of National Organization; and<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Accredited Bachelor&#8217;s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science OR equivalent education\/experience<\/p>\n<p>AND<\/p>\n<p>Current Medical Laboratory Science certification with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certifying organization; or certification with specialty organization appropriate to the laboratory division.<\/p>\n<p>AND<\/p>\n<p>One year of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist Trainee.
