BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perform a variety of complex invasive and\/or non-invasive diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures such as biopsies, aspirations, and drains in a clinical setting. Participate in training medical residents, fellows, students and staff. Recognize and respond to emergent and life threatening situations.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Independently perform clinical and research examinations and\/or procedures in mammography such as x-rays or computerized imaging systems including biopsies, aspirations, and drains; operate complex imaging equipment to perform examinations; guide and monitor patients through procedures; maintain incoming information flow about patients and outgoing information about study results; and participate with physicians in designing study techniques for each examination and\/or procedure.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Operate diagnostic imaging equipment to perform examinations in mammography.<\/p>\n

Prepare patient for examination; explain testing procedures; prepare examination rooms for procedures;<\/p>\n

Review and submit patient medical history to appropriate data collection system, consulting with the physician when appropriate and\/or indicated by laboratory protocol;<\/p>\n

Scrub and apply sterile technique in assisting in catheter placement;<\/p>\n

Counsel patient regarding safety factors and risks of examination;<\/p>\n

Monitor patient vital signs and condition throughout procedure; maintain daily log of procedures performed;<\/p>\n

Recognize and respond to life threatening situations which may occur during diagnostic and\/or interventional procedures;<\/p>\n

Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation as necessary;<\/p>\n

Maintain inventory of supplies to be ordered and submit order requests to supervisor;<\/p>\n

Assist in evaluating new products and equipment; perform calibration tests, adjust, and maintain all equipment with proper documentation;<\/p>\n

Assist in maintaining continuing education and research files;<\/p>\n

Execute standard calibration procedures and establish guidelines for equipment;<\/p>\n

Orient and provide information and instruction to medical residents, fellows, students, and staff who are rotating and\/or assigned to the specialty area;<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Satisfactory completion of formal technology training in an AMA approved school, registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n

Legal Requirement<\/p>\n

Certified by the State of Washington as a Radiologic Technologist.<\/p>\n

Registered by ARRT as a Mammography Technologist, before completion of probationary period.<\/p>\n
