Assist in the management of the respiratory care program, delivery of patient care and development of staff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general direction, provide technical and clinical direction to respiratory care staff in a specialty area such as Intensive Care, Pediatrics, and Rehabilitation Medicine. Act as liaison with all medical center departments and coordinate continuing education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Provide clinical direction of Respiratory Care Practitioners;<\/p>\n<p>Provide information for employee selection, evaluation, discipline, and other administrative actions related to department personnel;<\/p>\n<p>Provide skilled care to patients; coordinate staff participation in clinical projects in a specialty area;<\/p>\n<p>Provide or participate in formal teaching programs and continuing education classes relevant to the clinical specialty; coordinate student clinical rotations;<\/p>\n<p>Assist with the evaluation and testing of new products and respiratory care techniques;<\/p>\n<p>Establish the respiratory care quality assurance programs; ensure quality patient care outcomes;<\/p>\n<p>Assist with budgetary preparation and planning; help compile daily\/monthly reports to facilitate tracking actions and budgetary implications;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain staff schedules to ensure adequate staffing;<\/p>\n<p>May represent the department at meetings;<\/p>\n<p>Perform other duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completion of a respiratory care program approved by the State of Washington Department of Health AND three years of respiratory care therapy experience.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LEGAL REQUIREMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (Registered Respiratory Therapist &#8211; RRT) by the State of Washington.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>10\/15\/1976: New Class<br \/>\n07\/02\/1990: Revise MQ<br \/>\n12\/04\/1992: Revise Class\/Title<br \/>\n07\/09\/1999: Revise MQ<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<br \/>\n11\/16\/2021: Class adopted for UW contract classified staff per PERC decision to add this title to the SEIU 1199NW HMC Resp\/Anesth\/END bargaining unit (Case #132996-E-20).
