Conduct electroneurodiagnostic and other clinical electrophysiologic examinations.<\/p>\n

DEFINITION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prepare patient for and conduct routine inpatient and outpatient electroneurodiagnostic and other clinical electrophysiologic examinations.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under direct supervision, prepare patients for and conduct routine electroneurodiagnostic and other electrophysiologic examinations; collect data pertinent to the interpretation of test results.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perform electroneurodiagnostic procedures in at least one modality, such as EEG’s, evoked potentials, sleep studies and long-term monitoring;<\/p>\n

Review patient medical information and set up equipment;<\/p>\n

Obtain an accurate and concise patient history noting pertinent information such as neurologic and other relevant clinical symptomatology, significant clinical findings, and any medications taken by the patient;<\/p>\n

Evaluate patient for comprehension of ability to cooperate with the procedure; establish rapport and educate the patient and\/or family on the test procedure;<\/p>\n

Measure and apply electrodes using standardized systems and multiple electrode application techniques as needed;<\/p>\n

Calibrate, evaluate and adjust the instruments to proper technical standards in order to obtain top-quality recordings; keep equipment clean and in proper working order; troubleshoot equipment problems; repair and report to supervisor promptly;<\/p>\n

Record electrical activity using standard montages following published guidelines; document recording parameters, technical and clinical observations on the recording; recognize, monitor, and\/or eliminate artifacts;<\/p>\n

Implement alternative methods or adjust parameters to obtain optimal recording, including use of activation procedures, additional electrodes, different montages, or physiologic monitors;<\/p>\n

Learn to perform additional and advanced END procedures by supervised practice with increasing independence;<\/p>\n

Maintain laboratory inventory;<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Successful completion of an Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation<\/p>\n

Equivalent education\/experience.<\/p>\n
