Conduct a variety of technical procedures in a catheterization laboratory and assist with and monitor invasive procedures and studies. Operate imaging and physiological equipment, administer patient care services and collect and record data.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others. Under general direction, assist in coordinating the operation of the laboratory and training new staff and cardiac fellows.<\/p>\n<p>Under general direction, perform complex technical procedures and assist physicians during complex cardiovascular procedures in the clinical research phase or newly-developed FDA-approved period before available in community hospitals, including but not limited to Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair (TMVR\/MitraClip), Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve Implantation (TMVI) as well as high-risk, complex coronary, structural, or electrophysiological procedures that have passed the clinical research stage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Regularly assign, instruct and check the work of others.<\/p>\n<p>Perform a variety of imaging and interventional procedures in the invasive cardiovascular laboratories, including the cardiac catheterization (Cath) and electrophysiology (EP) departments.<\/p>\n<p>Prepare and assist with transcatheter and transapical cardiovascular delivery systems and devices. Support complex procedures that are accessed only via clinical trial, FDA-regulated emergent use, or continued access protocols at research hospitals. Crimp and load Aortic, Pulmonary and Mitral heart valves; assist with new and emerging techniques to treat and repair structural, coronary, vascular, and electrophysiologic heart conditions;<\/p>\n<p>Operate a wide variety of angiography and imaging equipment to produce a digital video, physiologic waveform record using high resolution recording systems; prepare and operate IntraVascular UltraSound (IVUS) and IntraCardiac Echocardiography (ICE) equipment; ensure image capture in digital archiving system (CVPACS);<\/p>\n<p>Select appropriate supplies and equipment to use for invasive procedures.<\/p>\n<p>May assist with investigational procedures as approved by the UW Medicine Institutional Review Board;<\/p>\n<p>Perform calibration on and operate a variety of physiological equipment and transducers to record and monitor waveforms and pressures in the heart chambers and major vessels;<\/p>\n<p>Assists in clinical research data collection;<\/p>\n<p>Monitors, circulates or performs surgical scrub duties in cardiac procedures such as heart catheterization, ablations, thermodilution studies, pacemaker studies, transseptal procedures, intra-aortic balloon pump procedures, angioplasty procedures, angiography studies, heart biopsy and implantation of ventricular assist devices;<\/p>\n<p>Administer patient care services such as intravenous therapy and medication, wound dressing and incision care, oxygen and suction; prepare patients for examinations including surgical skin prep, explanation of procedures and physicians&#8217; orders; prepare and set up surgical trays and materials for the procedures utilizing sterile techniques; monitor patient&#8217;s condition during transport to unit;<\/p>\n<p>Perform quality control tests; adjust and perform minor maintenance on cardiac catheterization equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Participate in continuous quality improvement activities; collect and enter quality data into appropriate information system;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain log of procedures; enter physiologic and clinical data in EPIC electronic medical record;<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrate cardiac techniques to students;
