CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Performs professional accounting work in preparation, analysis, and auditing of financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Designs or modifies accounting systems.<\/p>\n

BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perform routine accounting functions, including preparing trial balances and making adjusting and closing entries. Prepare complex automated and\/or manual reports in accordance with GAAP such as statement of changes in fund balance, income statement or balance sheet on an accrual basis; maintain ledger accounts and analyze fiscal data. Develop procedures to achieve more efficient record keeping or improve current operations. May participate in account analysis and management reports.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

First-level class of series. Under general supervision, perform professional accounting duties such as preparing recurring reports and analyzing, interpreting and summarizing fiscal data in accordance with GAAP.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Analyze accounts, records, reports, accounts receivable and payable, journal vouchers, general and subsidiary ledgers, and other accounting documents for accuracy and completeness; investigate questionable entries and initiate corrective measures;<\/p>\n

Prepare recurring accounting reports such as monthly financial statements to include statement of changes in fund balance, or income statement and\/or balance sheet on an accrual basis;<\/p>\n

Assist higher-level accountants or fiscal officers with preparation of accounting summary information, analysis of financial reports and development of procedures;<\/p>\n

Prepare trial balances and make adjusting and closing entries;<\/p>\n

Reconcile bank statements and fixed assets; prepare journal vouchers reflecting expenditures and transfer of funds;<\/p>\n

Approve vouchers, review claims, evaluate and take collections action;<\/p>\n

Monitor and review computer input and output processes and formats; maintain and modify record keeping systems; provide recommendations for computerized accounting system development;<\/p>\n

May direct support staff;<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business administration, computer science, economics, or closely related field that includes thirty quarter hours or twenty semester hours of college-level accounting courses<\/p>\n

OR<\/p>\n

four years of experience as a Fiscal Technician, or equivalent in the public sector, AND thirty quarter hours or twenty semester hours of college-level accounting courses.<\/p>\n

OR<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
