direct the operation of a cardiac ultrasound department; coordinate clinical research and cardiac ultrasound education programs; independently perform, assess, and document results of non-invasive and invasive clinical and research cardiac ultrasound and related physiological procedures to develop provisional working diagnosis of patients referred for evaluation of heart disease.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With delegated authority, interview and recommend selection of applicants, conduct training, assign and schedule work, act upon leave requests, conduct annual performance evaluations and recommend disciplinary action.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Supervise cardiac sonographers and other assigned staff such as registered nurses, student interns and support staff;<\/p>\n<p>Assign work to staff; plan department staffing and equipment needs, assign and approve work schedules for allocation of staff and necessary equipment to maintain adequate resources to meet patient schedule; verify and authorize payroll documents;<\/p>\n<p>Coordinate and oversee clinical and research procedures;<\/p>\n<p>Establish patient schedule; approve requests for changes or additions to schedule in accordance with department staffing and availability of equipment; coordinate department operation with other hospital departments and medical community to assure continuity of patient care;<\/p>\n<p>Develop, maintain, and implement department operating and clinical procedure protocols and policies in conjunction with medical director; maintain department policy and procedures manuals;<\/p>\n<p>Assure staff compliance with medical centers&#8217; policies &amp; procedures including respecting patients&#8217; cultural diversity and confidentiality rights; assure staff competency with patients&#8217; age-related or physical disability needs;<\/p>\n<p>Act as liaison for the department with attending physicians, housestaff, ancillary hospital and health sciences staff, nursing unit staff, other medical community health care specialists; resolve complaints and conflicts;<\/p>\n<p>Participate in the development and monitor the department&#8217;s operating budget; provide cost analyses as necessary; plan and develop capital equipment budget, provide specifications and justification for equipment purchases; prepare and submit capital equipment budget requests and purchase order forms;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain records of clinical procedures and procedure charge documents including ensuring documentation is obtained for managed care patients; oversee accounting records of hospital and physician procedure billings for department; develop and oversee preparation of statistical reports;<\/p>\n<p>Ensure performance of department equipment and ensure maintenance and operational safety; oversee inventory control of laboratory equipment and supplies; authorize purchase orders for supplies;<\/p>\n<p>Coordinate and conduct regular department staff meetings, maintain documents of meeting agenda and minutes;<\/p>\n<p>Review and approve all requests\/applications for laboratory participation in research projects with medical director and manager; oversee and ensure billing of research budgets to reimburse hospital budget for research procedures performed;<\/p>\n<p>Evaluate and select new diagnostic ultrasound and related physiological testing equipment; define new equipment specifications and participate as liaison with relevant equipment manufacturer representatives; oversee evaluation of prototype equipment and\/or equipment software; assure confidentiality of manufacturers&#8217; proprietary information;<\/p>\n<p>Coordinate and oversee department&#8217;s participation with medical centers&#8217; quality assurance programs; oversee data collection; assure compliance with accreditation requirements; assist with department&#8217;s participation and compliance with relevant clinical standards and accreditation processes;<\/p>\n<p>Perform the work of Cardiac Sonographer 2;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Current Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification through American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)<\/p>\n<p>AND<\/p>\n<p>Two years of laboratory experience as Cardiac Sonographer 2 or Cardiac Sonographer Specialist<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>One year of laboratory experience as a Cardiac Sonographer Lead.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>06\/09\/2000: New Class<br \/>\n07\/01\/2014: New Class Title;
