BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Conduct a variety of technical procedures in a catheterization laboratory and assist with and monitor invasive procedures and studies. Operate x-ray and physiological equipment, administer patient care services and collect and record data.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under general supervision, perform complex technical procedures and assist physicians during cardiac procedures such as angioplasty, heart catheterization and coronary angiography.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Operate a wide variety of x-ray equipment to produce a filmed record such as cine pulse, cut-film changer, and high resolution recording systems;<\/p>\n

Develop 35mm films maintaining film quality control standards;<\/p>\n

Perform calibration on and operate a variety of physiological equipment and transducers to record and monitor electrocardiograms and blood pressures in various heart chambers;<\/p>\n

Perform technical aspects and assist in cardiac procedures such as heart catheterization, thermodilution studies, pacemaker studies, transeptal procedures, intra-aortic balloon pump procedures, angioplasty procedures, angiography studies, heart biopsy and streptokinase studies;<\/p>\n

Assist in collecting, recording, and calculating hemodynamic data such as Fick and VO2 cardiac outputs and oximeter saturations;<\/p>\n

Administer patient care services such as intravenous therapy and medication, wound dressing and incision care, oxygen and suction; prepare patients for examinations including surgical skin prep, explanation of procedures and physicians’ orders; prepare and set up surgical trays and materials for the procedures utilizing sterile techniques; monitor patient’s condition during transport to unit;<\/p>\n

Order laboratory supplies from central service; assist in evaluating new products and equipment;<\/p>\n

Perform quality control tests; adjust and perform minor maintenance on cardiac catheterization equipment;<\/p>\n

Maintain daily log of procedures; enter data on laboratory computer system;<\/p>\n

Demonstrate cardiac techniques to students;<\/p>\n

Perform emergency call responsibilities;<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Diagnostic Radiology or as an Invasive Cardiovascular Technologist AND one year of experience as a Cardiac Technologist Trainee or equivalent AND certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation within four months from date of hire.<\/p>\n

Two years of experience as a cardiovascular technologist or equivalent position may substitute for the year of experience as a Cardiac Technologist Trainee providing one year of that experience involves performing invasive cardiac procedures.<\/p>\n

Work experience which demonstrates comparable skills may substitute for the registration requirement.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
