{"id":5626,"date":"2024-03-26T16:55:20","date_gmt":"2024-03-26T23:55:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5626"},"modified":"2025-05-05T15:23:03","modified_gmt":"2025-05-05T22:23:03","slug":"carpenter","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/carpenter\/","title":{"rendered":"Carpenter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18825 (NE S WFSE Trades)<br \/>\n22818 (NE H NI WFSE Trades)<\/p>\n<p><strong>DEFINITION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform journey-level carpentry work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Positions allocated to this class are distinguished by the responsibility to perform journey &#8211; level carpentry work in the maintenance, repair and construction of institution facilities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Repair or alter buildings, sheds, scaffolds, partitions, concrete forms and other structures from plans, sketches or instructions; may construct new facilities from blueprints and specifications;<\/p>\n<p>Repair floors, walls, ceilings, screen, windows, sashes, doors, furniture, fixtures, stairs, cupboards and roofs;<\/p>\n<p>Build and install cabinets, furniture and other fixtures;<\/p>\n<p>Adjust, repair or replace locks, weather stripping, screens, mirrors, brackets, blinds, linoleum, tile, gutters and downspouts;<\/p>\n<p>Operate power equipment such as saws, jointers, lathes, sanders, planers, boring and mortising machines; clean, sharpen, maintain and repair such equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Clean, sharpen, maintain and repair hand tools;<\/p>\n<p>Develop preliminary cost estimates for installations and repairs;<\/p>\n<p>Drive service truck as required; load and unload materials and supplies;<\/p>\n<p>May lead and instruct helpers as required;<\/p>\n<p>May perform work in other trades;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a carpenter; or full journey status as a carpenter in a union; or four years&#8217; applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
