{"id":5604,"date":"2024-03-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-26T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5604"},"modified":"2026-06-27T19:04:42","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T02:04:42","slug":"clinic-cytogenetic-technologist-specialist","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/clinic-cytogenetic-technologist-specialist\/","title":{"rendered":"Clinic Cytogenetic Technologist Specialist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18453 (E S SEIU 925 HCP\/LT)<br \/>\n18454 (NE S SEIU 925 HCP\/LT)<br \/>\n22622 (NE H NI SEIU 925 HCP\/LT)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Research, evaluate, and implement cytogenetic procedures in the laboratory; instruct staff, residents, fellows, and students in procedures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general direction, research and evaluate new cytogenetic procedures for implementation in the laboratory; instruct others as appropriate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Instruct residents, fellows, and students in cytogenetic techniques, history and clinical relevance of the techniques, and the genetic and chemical basis for laboratory procedures and policies; assist in training Cytogenetic Technologists;<\/p>\n<p>Research and evaluate new cytogenetic techniques; introduce and implement appropriate techniques into the routine service of the laboratory;<\/p>\n<p>Consult literature and attend seminars and conferences pertaining to new applications of cytogenetics; develop and apply new procedures in these areas;<\/p>\n<p>Prepare progress reports concerning studies and write reports, including assembling, organizing, and interpreting data;<\/p>\n<p>Perform the work of Clinical Cytogenetic Technologists;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Bachelor&#8217;s Degree with at least ten credit hours in genetics and fifteen credit hours in a biological science AND certification as a Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Cytogenetics by the National Certification Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel AND two years of experience as a Clinical Cytogenetic Technologist or equivalent.
