{"id":5602,"date":"2024-03-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-26T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5602"},"modified":"2026-06-27T19:04:42","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T02:04:42","slug":"clinic-cytogenetic-technologist-trnee","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/clinic-cytogenetic-technologist-trnee\/","title":{"rendered":"Clinic Cytogenetic Technologist Trnee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18450 (NE S SEIU 925 HCP\/LT)<br \/>\n22620 (NE H NI SEIU 925 HCP\/LT)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform cytogenetic laboratory procedures and analysis, utilizing general genetics and the basic biology of the mitotic cell cycle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Participate in on-the-job training in cytogenetic laboratory procedures and analyses, using general genetics and the basic biology of the mitotic cell cycle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under direct supervision, participate in on-the-job training to learn and perform cytogenetic laboratory procedures and analyses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Participate in structured training modes to perform the following:<\/p>\n<p>Scan slides for analyzable spreads; count and analyze selected spreads and evaluate acceptable quality;<\/p>\n<p>Karyotype the photographic prints using the standard format;<\/p>\n<p>Stain slides of chromosome spreads utilizing a variety of banding techniques, including G, R, C, Q, and NOR, etc.;<\/p>\n<p>Review patient request forms for accuracy of information and determine if previous cytogenetics studies were performed;<\/p>\n<p>Set up cultures for chromosome analysis on blood, bone marrow, solid tumor tissue, amniotic fluid or fibroblasts from skin, lung, etc.; harvest cultures on these specimens;<\/p>\n<p>Photograph selected chromosome spreads; develop and print film;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain documentation of the steps performed in preparation with appropriate labeling of test tubes and slides;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain records of all lab procedures;<\/p>\n<p>Summarize test results using the International System for Cytogenetic Nomenclature and write reports to present to faculty for approval;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain a safe work environment following health and safety regulations and laboratory policies;<\/p>\n<p>Attend and participate in laboratory staff meetings, journal clubs, continuing education and in-service education;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Bachelor&#8217;s Degree with at least fifteen credit hours in a biological or physical science.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>03\/21\/1988: New Class<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18450 (NE S SEIU 925 HCP\/LT) 22620 (NE H NI SEIU 925 HCP\/LT) CLASS SERIES CONCEPT Perform cytogenetic laboratory procedures and analysis, utilizing general genetics and the basic biology of the mitotic cell cycle.
