CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Provides computer operations support within an extremely complex computing environment. Supports multiple computer rooms, serving hundreds of server-class computers in various locations, and utilizing some of the most diverse environmental monitoring and control equipment available. Computers include models from various manufacturers, operate with multiple different operating systems, are connected via multiple gigabit networks, are arranged in several different architectural configurations, are attached to 3 or more terabytes of online disk storage, and have connections to various storage libraries that contain hundreds of terabytes of nearline data. The environment includes router centers for three major networks (campus, statewide, and regional), and major interconnect points for Internet and Internet2 traffic. Data center(s) support academic, research, administrative, and medical center computing, more than 7,000 application programs, centrally printed reports (several million pages per month), and a user community of 100,000+ accounts.<\/p>\n

BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under general supervision, provide highly complex IO Sub-system(s) support by maintaining peripheral hardware and interacting with related software in a distributed computing environment.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Operate and maintain all operation, software, and hardware procedures related to the support of IO devices such as printing, tape robotics, and output processing.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Print and process output generated from production applications. Operate, maintain, and monitor hardware peripheral devices, and supporting software tools, to ensure the readiness of tape robotic, print, disk, network, and other complex computer subsystems.<\/p>\n

Respond to environmental alarms generated from monitoring hardware and software tools that support HVAC, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, Fire Alarms, Water Detection Alarms, and Building Security Systems. Perform necessary related duties to minimize physical damage to network and computing equipment.<\/p>\n

Report, record, and escalate problem events to the appropriate technical support staff, internal departments, departmental users, and vendor support staff.<\/p>\n

May assist other support staff in monitoring and reacting to alarms generated from system consoles, hardware, and system management tools.<\/p>\n

May be assigned specific system administration tasks on Data Center internal servers and workstations.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Associate degree or other related technical certification training related to Information Technologies and 1 year of experience in the IT industry<\/p>\n

OR<\/p>\n

2 years of work experience in a large enterprise IT environment, demonstrating continued growth in progressively more complex technologies (e.g. system administration; scripting, programming; and networking principles, protocols, and architecture)<\/p>\n

OR<\/p>\n

a combination of education and large IT enterprise experience plus 1 year of experience in the IT industry.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
