Projects include electrical, refrigeration, heating, plumbing, carpentry, concrete finishing, painting, welding, sheet metal, and related work.<\/p>\n<p>Positions are assigned to off-campus research and extension units where access to campus skilled trades shops\/employees is limited by significant geographical distances.<\/p>\n<p>Journey-level work is assigned based on employees&#8217; journey-level skills in the specific trades areas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform journey-level work in at least two skilled trades areas constructing, remodeling, repairing, and maintaining of buildings, facilities, utilities, machinery, and equipment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general supervision, perform construction, maintenance and repair work on institution facilities and equipment where construction activities constitute a significant portion of the working time. Construction includes erecting buildings and facilities such as greenhouses, screen houses, storage facilities, pumphouses, animal waste handling facilities, barrier-free facilities, with complete mechanical and electrical systems as well as major remodels with space utilization changes involving lowering ceilings, removing and installing walls and installing all associated mechanical and electrical systems and fixtures.<\/p>\n<p>This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Mechanic class series by the requirement to perform work in at least two skilled trades areas in new construction at least thirty-five percent of the working time in an off-campus research and extension unit where access to campus skilled trades shops\/employees is limited by significant geographical distances. Positions fabricate apparatus, facilities, or systems unique to research studies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Construct and remodel facilities in accordance with project requirements; assist in the preparation of engineering data;<\/p>\n<p>Repair or alter buildings and other structures such as offices, laboratories, greenhouses, shops, sheds, barns, partitions, walk-in coolers, from plans, sketches or instruction; construct new facilities from blueprints and specifications;<\/p>\n<p>Install, repair and maintain electrical, mechanical, and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution systems;<\/p>\n<p>Construct forms, pour and finish concrete floors, walls, foundations, stairs, curbing, and sidewalks;<\/p>\n<p>Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, and maintain boilers, heating and ventilating systems, power distribution systems, refrigeration equipment and air conditioning systems;<\/p>\n<p>Operate power tools and equipment such as welders, threading machines, lathes, sheet metal brakes and shears, pipe and conduit benders, saws, grinders, presses, spray guns and related equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Fabricate, assemble, test, repair, and maintain apparatus, equipment and components from sheet metal, steel, plexiglass, wood and related material for research applications and plant operations; estimate material needs and recommend purchases of commercially available components and equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Fabricate apparatus, facilities, or systems unique to research studies such as animal waste or greenhouse research;<\/p>\n<p>Prepare drawings and maintain documentation of construction and alteration projects;<\/p>\n<p>Perform preventative maintenance and repair work on all types of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Operate motorized equipment such as cranes, backhoes, front-end loaders, trenchers, and related equipment incidental to the construction and remodel of facilities;<\/p>\n<p>Assist journey-level workers in other trades areas;<\/p>\n<p>May direct helpers;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in at least two skilled trades areas<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>full journey status in two skilled trades unions.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>04\/03\/1992: New Class<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18817 (NE S WFSE Trades) 22810 (NE H NI WFSE Trades) CLASS SERIES CONCEPT Perform new construction, alteration, maintenance and emergency repair on buildings, equipment, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":96,"featured_media":0,"parent":12,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_lmt_disableupdate":"no","_lmt_disable":"no","footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-5516","page","type-page","status-publish","format-standard","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
