{"id":5458,"date":"2024-03-26T15:47:27","date_gmt":"2024-03-26T22:47:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5458"},"modified":"2025-05-06T13:28:47","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T20:28:47","slug":"cytotechnologist-1","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/cytotechnologist-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Cytology Technologist 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18335 (NE S SEIU 925 HMC T)<br \/>\n23240 (NE H NI SEIU 925 HMC T)<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Conduct clinical diagnostic procedures and\/or research activities in a clinical cytology laboratory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general direction, perform complex procedures to determine appropriate processing and diagnosis of cytology samples from various body sites.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sign out final negative diagnosis of gynecological slides; integrate patient information with the cellular presentation to develop preliminary diagnosis;<\/p>\n<p>Microscopically evaluate slide to recognize normal cellular morphology and pathologic conditions such as inflammation, inflammatory agents, reactive changes, benign conditions, neoplastic, pre-malignant conditions, and malignant tumors; highlight any abnormality;<\/p>\n<p>Screen and evaluate prepared slides of cellular samplings obtained by a variety of means from a variety of body sites such as kidney, brain, eye, thyroid, respiratory tract, gastrointestinal (GI) tract and female genital tract;<\/p>\n<p>Monitor and record daily workload to include the total number of slides examined and the number of hours spent examining slides;<\/p>\n<p>Prepare gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens using current technologies;<\/p>\n<p>Assist in collecting specimens by specialized procedures such as fine needle aspirations, core needle biopsies, and kidney brushings; prepare material for immediate preliminary evaluation;<\/p>\n<p>Perform rapid on-site immediate assessment for fine needle aspirations and core needle biopsies, using telecytology when indicated;<\/p>\n<p>Operate cytology instrumentation according to established protocols;<\/p>\n<p>Comply with all applicable laboratory regulatory requirements;<\/p>\n<p>Ensure a clean, safe work environment and identify and report safety issues as required;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Bachelor of Science Degree<\/p>\n<p>AND<\/p>\n<p>Graduation from an Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) accredited school of cytotechnology or other organization approved by Health and Human Services (HHS)<\/p>\n<p>AND<\/p>\n<p>American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Registry (BOR) certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT) or Specialist in Cytotechnology (SCT).<\/p>\n<p>EEquivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>07\/01\/2016: New Class<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18335 (NE S SEIU 925 HMC T) 23240 (NE H NI SEIU 925 HMC T) BASIC FUNCTION Conduct clinical diagnostic procedures and\/or research activities in [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":96,"featured_media":0,"parent":12,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_lmt_disableupdate":"no","_lmt_disable":"no","footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-5458","page","type-page","status-publish","format-standard","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
