{"id":5456,"date":"2024-03-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-26T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5456"},"modified":"2026-06-27T19:03:59","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T02:03:59","slug":"cytology-technologist-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/cytology-technologist-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Cytology Technologist 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18336 (NE S SEIU 925 HMC T)<br \/>\n23241 (NE H NI SEIU 925 HMC T)<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Conduct clinical diagnostic procedures and research activities in a clinical cytology laboratory; direct the work of cytotechnologists and other assigned staff; and perform administrative procedures in support of the laboratory operation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Develop quality assurance reports; perform quality control assessments; and provide work direction to cytotechnologists, lab assistants, and other assigned staff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Provide work direction to Cytotechnologist 1&#8217;s, lab assistants, and other assigned staff;<\/p>\n<p>Collect follow-up data of patients who have had cytologic exams; assimilate data and develop quality assurance reports;<\/p>\n<p>Inform physicians immediately of the final report on all suspicious and positive gynecological and non-gynecological cytology cases;<\/p>\n<p>Perform quality control stain checks and assessments;<\/p>\n<p>Perform gynecological Pap quality control slide reviews;<\/p>\n<p>Develop and test cytology procedures; adapt and implement procedures for the laboratory;<\/p>\n<p>Perform the work of Cytotechnologist 1;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Bachelor of Science Degree<\/p>\n<p>AND<\/p>\n<p>Graduation from an Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) accredited school of cytotechnology or other organization approved by Health and Human Services (HHS)<\/p>\n<p>AND<\/p>\n<p>American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Registry (BOR) certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT) or Specialist in Cytotechnology (SCT).<\/p>\n<p>AND<\/p>\n<p>At least 3 years full-time experience as a cytotechnologist within the preceding 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>07\/01\/2016: New Class<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18336 (NE S SEIU 925 HMC T) 23241 (NE H NI SEIU 925 HMC T) BASIC FUNCTION Conduct clinical diagnostic procedures and research activities in a clinical cytology laboratory; direct the work of cytotechnologists and other assigned staff; and perform administrative procedures in support of the laboratory operation.
