{"id":5436,"date":"2024-03-26T15:36:57","date_gmt":"2024-03-26T22:36:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5436"},"modified":"2025-05-06T14:13:27","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T21:13:27","slug":"dental-hygienist","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/dental-hygienist\/","title":{"rendered":"Dental Hygienist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18465 (NE S SEIU 925 HCP\/LT)<br \/>\n22628 (NE H NI SEIU 925 HCP\/LT)<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform expanded dental hygiene duties in a dental clinic or hospital setting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general supervision, perform expanded dental hygiene technical and restorative dental procedures and periodontal therapy in conjunction with dental students, dentists and physicians.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform primary dental hygiene duties including: review patient health history; conduct preliminary oral examination including periodontal charting; take intra-oral photographs; expose and process x-rays; take vital signs; perform oral prophylaxis including sub-gingival and supra-gingival scaling, root planing and soft tissue curettage; apply fluoride treatments and<\/p>\n<p>sealants; educate patients in oral hygiene procedures including dietary analysis; maintain patient records and recall systems;<\/p>\n<p>Perform expanded dental hygienist duties including: administer local anesthesia (both infiltration and block anesthesia) and nitrous-oxide analgesia; apply and remove rubber dams; polish amalgam restorations, crowns and supra-gingival areas; place cement base, place amalgam matrix bands and wedges; condense and carve amalgam restorations; adjust occlusion; adapt<\/p>\n<p>celluloid matrices for placement of composite- resins; insert and finish composite resin restoration; take impressions for diagnostic models; retract gingival tissue prior to impression; fabricate temporary restorations; adapt stainless steel crowns and perform other duties as provided by the State of Washington&#8217;s dental laws; scheduling patient appointments, establishing recall systems, and maintaining patient records;<\/p>\n<p>Assist in the treatment of medically and physically compromised patients; under a dentist&#8217;s supervision implement appropriate treatment plans such as the provision of periodontal therapy in accordance with the patient&#8217;s needs;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain clinic equipment and supplies; clean and sterilize equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Instruct students in the role of the dental hygienist in the delivery of patient care;<\/p>\n<p>May assist in patient management, data collection and analysis for research projects;<\/p>\n<p>May conduct dental education courses;<\/p>\n<p>Perform other related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Graduation from an accredited school of dental hygiene, AND a current license to practice as a dental hygienist in the State of Washington.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>07\/19\/1974: New Class<br \/>\n10\/06\/1988: Revise Class\/Title<br \/>\n07\/02\/1990: Revise MQ<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18465 (NE S SEIU 925 HCP\/LT) 22628 (NE H NI SEIU 925 HCP\/LT) BASIC FUNCTION Perform expanded dental hygiene duties in a dental clinic or [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":96,"featured_media":0,"parent":12,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_lmt_disableupdate":"no","_lmt_disable":"no","footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-5436","page","type-page","status-publish","format-standard","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
