Basic Function<\/strong><\/p>\n

Coordinate special events and activities to further University development initiatives and\/or fund raising. Identify, recruit and direct the work of volunteers and staff to execute activities for the advancement of the University.<\/p>\n

Distinguishing Characteristics<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under general direction, reporting to an individual who has substantial responsibility for development and\/or University initiatives. Plan, organize and direct event and\/or fundraiser activities. Exercise independent judgment in developing relationships with affiliated or potentially affiliated individuals of the University of Washington such as University alumni, students, supporters and donors. Coordinate events\/activities that will encourage support for fund raising and\/or other major initiatives. This classification is distinguished from the Conference Coordinator by its responsibilities for coordinating events and activities directly related to University or major department broad range development initiatives and\/or fund raising.<\/p>\n

Typical Work<\/strong><\/p>\n

Coordinate events and fund raising activities which connect the University of Washington alumni, students families, friends, donors, corporate sponsors, and community members to the University to further the University of Washington goals;<\/p>\n

Coordinate public relations activities;<\/p>\n

Coordinate activities such as those that generate revenue for University of Washington initiatives;<\/p>\n

Research and utilize market trends within alumni development departments, and university environments to ensure event activity aligns with strategic and business plans; modify as research directs;<\/p>\n

Identify, recruit and direct the work of volunteers and staff to execute activities for the advancement of the University;<\/p>\n

Provide direction and assistance to campus departments, schools and colleges in the development of targeted events and activities; serve as liaison to Development, University Relations and other units as required;<\/p>\n

Assist departments with marketing, graphic design and communications to commission printed material, publicity plans and Internet communications, which effectively promote special events and activities; coordinate media efforts to ensure maximum visibility for the department\/University;<\/p>\n

Interact with alumni, donors, students, supporters and others by attending conferences\/training when appropriate; provide training and consultation to colleagues and volunteers;<\/p>\n

Coordinate and monitor budgets for events and activities; identify and solicit additional sources of funding (corporate, campus, media) for special events and activities;<\/p>\n

Use word processing, spreadsheet, graphic, statistical, and\/or database software to ensure clear and accurate communication and presentation of programs, schedules, and budgets; perform complex scheduling, and related duties as required;<\/p>\n

Contribute to the design and maintain Web pages.<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as assigned.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bachelor’s degree. Two years of experience in alumni relations, development, public relations, or event planning, demonstrating excellent verbal and written skills, organizational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
