{"id":5376,"date":"2024-03-26T15:07:49","date_gmt":"2024-03-26T22:07:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5376"},"modified":"2025-05-06T14:58:35","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T21:58:35","slug":"elevator-mechanic","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/elevator-mechanic\/","title":{"rendered":"Elevator Mechanic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18836 (NE S WFSE Trades)<br \/>\n22829 (NE H NI WFSE Trades)<\/p>\n<p><strong>DEFINITION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform journey-level work on elevators and similar lift equipment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Positions allocated to this class are distinguished by the requirement for performing specialized work to maintain, adjust, and repair elevators, hook lifts, dumb waiters, overhead movable cranes and hoists, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inspect, adjust, and maintain hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical components installed in elevators, dumb waiters, escalators, moving walks, an hoists;<\/p>\n<p>Repair or replace motors, cables, door mechanisms, valves, and a variety of other electrical and mechanical components used in an elevator or conveyor system.<\/p>\n<p>Search for and diagnose malfunctions in electrical and hydraulic systems; use electrical measuring and testing instruments to check control and safety devices; conduct preventative maintenance programs;<\/p>\n<p>Keep informed of applicable codes and safety regulations;<\/p>\n<p>Operate a variety of hand and power tools;<\/p>\n<p>May lead or instruct helpers as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an elevator mechanic; OR full journey status as an elevator mechanic in a union; OR four years&#8217; applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
