Provide professional\/technical assistance and recommend modification and revision of facilities\/equipment for compliance with applicable fire prevention regulations and ordinances.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Implement and maintain operation and engineering functions for an institutional fire protection division engaged in all phases of life safety, fire prevention and fire prevention activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>First-level class of series. Under general supervision, implement and maintain life safety and fire protection policies and procedures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Implement and maintain operations and engineering functions for an institutional fire protection\/prevention program;<\/p>\n<p>Review all plans and specifications for new construction and modifications to institutional buildings and facilities to ensure inclusion of required life safety and fire protection features;<\/p>\n<p>Provide technical guidance and code interpretations to other departments and consulting engineers;<\/p>\n<p>Conduct fire protection surveys on institutional buildings and facilities and submit reports to consulting engineers;<\/p>\n<p>Review all shop drawings and approve installations of fire protection systems, equipment and devices, fire alarm systems and life safety features;<\/p>\n<p>Conduct operational tests and inspections on new installations to ensure compliance with plans and specifications; resolve compliance problems with city and state fire safety officials;<\/p>\n<p>Plan and conduct a fire prevention program, including fire prevention instruction and drills;<\/p>\n<p>Direct and coordinate fire prevention inspection programs in institutional buildings and facilities;<\/p>\n<p>Direct monitoring of public events to ensure compliance with life safety requirements and crowd control;<\/p>\n<p>Make detailed investigations of and maintain files regarding fires and other disasters to determine the cause, contributing factors, extent and amount of loss; report findings to supervisor with recommendations to prevent future similar events;<\/p>\n<p>Develop and maintain master plan and criteria for the central fire alarm system;<\/p>\n<p>May direct work of fire inspectors;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Bachelor&#8217;s Degree in engineering; and two years of fire protection or closely related field.
