{"id":5328,"date":"2024-03-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-26T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5328"},"modified":"2026-06-27T19:03:22","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T02:03:22","slug":"floorlayer","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/floorlayer\/","title":{"rendered":"Floorlayer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18838 (NE S WFSE Trades)<br \/>\n22831 (NE H NI WFSE Trades)<\/p>\n<p><strong>DEFINITION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform journey &#8211; level floorlaying or floorcovering work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Positions in this class perform journey &#8211; level work in applying a variety of decorative and functional covering to floors, walls, and countertops.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Scrape, chip, and clean surfaces to prepare for installation of covering;<\/p>\n<p>Apply adhesives, pastes, and grouts;<\/p>\n<p>Lay tile, linoleum, and rubber cove base;<\/p>\n<p>Remove, repair, and replace damaged, loose, and broken asphalt, asbestos, vinyl, and rubber tile; repair and replace rubber cove base;<\/p>\n<p>Lay carpet; measure and cut padding and carpet to size; sew, trim, and tack in place;<\/p>\n<p>Operate power carpet stretcher, electric hammer and drill; use chisel, knife, carpet shears, needle and thread;<\/p>\n<p>Inspect surfaces for damages; estimate time and materials for repair;<\/p>\n<p>Drive service vehicle;<\/p>\n<p>May repair and replace ceramic counter tops;<\/p>\n<p>May repair and grout ceramic tile in bathrooms and shower stalls;<\/p>\n<p>May perform work in other trades;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a floorlayer or carpet layer; OR full journey status as a floorlayer or carpet layer in a union; OR four years&#8217; applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
