BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Design, illustrate and prepare a variety of artwork for publications, research or instructional use, media presentations, and displays.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under general supervision, design and prepare original artwork for a variety of communication purposes.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Design, layout and illustrated produce camera-ready art for publication such as brochures, posters, signs, bulletins, educational information and materials, using a variety of techniques and materials such as pen and ink overlays, airbrush and photographs;<\/p>\n

Select most appropriate techniques and materials available within the project budget;<\/p>\n

Design and produce graphics such as ink drawings, diagrams, charts, transparencies, models, signs posters and other graphic materials for instructional use, publication, television and displays;<\/p>\n

Prepare preliminary and finished drawings from original materials and\/or process reproductions from books, slides, sketches, and maps;<\/p>\n

Prepare parallel projections, technical and\/or other working drawings from verbal instructions, consultation with clients, samples and specimens, using other reference materials as necessary;<\/p>\n

Specify typography, paper stock, ink color, photographs, other items and techniques for use in printed materials;<\/p>\n

Produce finished artwork, colored charts and drawings;<\/p>\n

Prepare and coordinate a variety of camera-ready artwork for reproduction by offset and\/or letter press, xerography, photographic means, and serigraphy;<\/p>\n

Copy fit text and scale photographs and other illustrations to finished layout;<\/p>\n

May check galleys, page proofs, press proofs, bluelines, color separation proofs and prepare as required; select paper stock and binding methods;<\/p>\n

May operate computer graphics terminals to design visuals and produce photographic and hard copy originals;<\/p>\n

May write copy for publications as requested by clients.<\/p>\n

May perform the work of Graphic Illustrators.<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

One year of applicable college-level training in graphics design, or equivalent art school training AND one year of experience as a Graphic Illustrator.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
