CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prepare tissue specimens for and\/or conduct histological examinations and analyses.<\/p>\n

BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis; maintain laboratory equipment and records.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under direct supervision, prepare tissue for microscopic analysis.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Receive and accession specimens; fix, process and embed tissues; record complete patient information either manually or by computer;<\/p>\n

Prepare specimens by frozen section methods;<\/p>\n

Cut thin sections of specimens, using various types of microtomes; mount, stain, and label slides;<\/p>\n

Perform special stain techniques; assess completed work prior to distribution;<\/p>\n

Prepare reagents, dyes and solutions in accordance with standard procedures;<\/p>\n

Maintain laboratory equipment, records and files;<\/p>\n

Enter to the computer patient and specimen information from pathology requisition slips; verify completed work via the computer;<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Completion of a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) approved school<\/p>\n

OR
\ntwo years of experience in histologic technique.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
