{"id":5260,"date":"2024-03-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-26T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5260"},"modified":"2026-06-27T19:03:01","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T02:03:01","slug":"histotechnologist","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/histotechnologist\/","title":{"rendered":"Histotechnologist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18379 (NE S SEIU 925 RT)<br \/>\n22585 (NE H NI SEIU 925 RT)<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform complex histologic procedures; assist in the technical operation of a laboratory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general direction, perform complex procedures in all anatomic laboratories such as flow cytometry and immunocytochemistry and assist in the technical operation of a laboratory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Implement, monitor, and perform quality control of specimens; determine disposition of improperly handled specimens; identify problems, take corrective action, notify supervisor of action taken and monitor follow-up solutions;<\/p>\n<p>Develop and assess the impact of new procedures in the laboratory; implement and evaluate the requirements to comply with CAP standards;<\/p>\n<p>Train new employees in histologic procedures, preparation of reagents\/stains, and proper use and theory of standard laboratory equipment; orient pathologists and residents to complex histologic procedures;<\/p>\n<p>Perform complex histologic functions in all anatomic laboratories such as flow cytometry and immunocytochemistry as assigned;<\/p>\n<p>Perform the work of Histologic Technician II;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Certified as a Histotechnologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists OR certified as a Histologic Technician by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists AND three years of experience in a clinical or research laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>Experience\/education which demonstrates comparable skills may substitute for the certification requirement.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>03\/03\/1989: New Class<br \/>\n07\/02\/1990: Revise MQ<br \/>\n10\/15\/2003: New to SEIU<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18379 (NE S SEIU 925 RT) 22585 (NE H NI SEIU 925 RT) BASIC FUNCTION Perform complex histologic procedures; assist in the technical operation of a laboratory.
