Conduct field and laboratory investigations of facilities, equipment, and environment to assess environmental hygiene hazards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Assist in planning and implementing employee environmental hygiene programs for institution and\/or industry;<\/p>\n<p>Investigate work sites for suspected health hazards such as areas utilizing toxic materials, chemicals, gases, etc., and\/or work areas containing potential hazards such as laboratories, enclosed tanks, manholes;<\/p>\n<p>Interview work site personnel, gather samples of air, liquids, dusts, and industrial material;<\/p>\n<p>Conduct surveys of community air pollution problems;<\/p>\n<p>Measure physical and chemical parameters of the workplace including noise, temperature, chemical contamination using direct reading instruments such as sound level meters, explosive gas meters, dosimeters, pumps, and rotameters;<\/p>\n<p>Calculate and prepare data for survey and research reports;<\/p>\n<p>Review engineering drawings and specifications; recommend modifications to minimize environmental\/occupational health hazards;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain, calibrate, and repair industrial hygiene equipment;<\/p>\n<p>May collect and process hazardous chemical waste; manifest shipments to approved processors;<\/p>\n<p>May maintain data processing systems;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Bachelor&#8217;s Degree with major study in industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, biological or physical science, or closely related field; and two years of professional experience in industrial hygiene programs.
