{"id":5222,"date":"2024-03-26T13:42:14","date_gmt":"2024-03-26T20:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5222"},"modified":"2025-05-22T11:13:15","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T18:13:15","slug":"insulation-worker","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/insulation-worker\/","title":{"rendered":"Insulation Worker"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18842 (NE S WFSE Trades)<br \/>\n22834 (NE H NI WFSE Trades)<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform journey-level work insulating mechanical systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Apply insulating materials to the surface of all types of mechanical systems, such as pipes, ducts, boilers and tanks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Insulate domestic hot and cold water lines, high and low pressure steam lines, chilled water and refrigerant lines, heat pump systems, roof drain lines, air conditioning systems, boilers and tanks by application of fiberglass, calcium silicate and assorted petroleum by-product insulating materials;<\/p>\n<p>Mold, fabricate and repair special parts and fittings;<\/p>\n<p>Operate and maintain hand and power tools and equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Remove and reinsulate non-asbestos insulation materials from facilities and equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Remove and repair asbestos materials from facilities and equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Drive service truck as required; load and unload materials and supplies;<\/p>\n<p>May direct and instruct helpers;<\/p>\n<p>May assist in preparing preliminary cost estimates for installation and repair projects;<\/p>\n<p>May perform work in other trades;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an insulation worker<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>full journey status as an insulation worker in a union<\/p>\n<p>OR<\/p>\n<p>four years of applicable experience.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>01\/03\/1973: New Class<br \/>\n01\/21\/1973: Revise Class<br \/>\n01\/18\/1974: Revise Code &amp; Title<br \/>\n04\/06\/1990: Revise Class<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18842 (NE S WFSE Trades) 22834 (NE H NI WFSE Trades) BASIC FUNCTION Perform journey-level work insulating mechanical systems.
