CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Serve as a library and archives specialist for the Elisabeth C. Miller Library in the Center for Urban Horticulture, a unit of the University of Washington Botanic Gardens (\u201cthe Library\u201d).<\/p>\n

BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perform the full range of complex library tasks such as archival and records management, development and cataloging of library collection; and bibliographic and reference searches specific to horticulture.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under general direction, perform complex library or archival tasks using intensive application of specialized knowledge and skills, such as search bibliographic or horticultural reference resources, perform cataloging of library or archival materials; assist clients with reference services including interpreting and conferring on research strategies; and assist with the management and preservation of the collection.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Analyze and resolve complex order and bibliographic or archival cataloging problems; maintain and update internal records using complex automated systems;<\/p>\n

Provide horticulture research services and assistance and resolve research and general inquiries specific to plants and plant science; consult finding aids and interpret them for researchers; monitor researchers to assure adherence to collections use procedures and security of archival records, publications, and equipment; retrieve and re-file archival materials; guide archival researchers to other sources for records, publications, and information;<\/p>\n

Respond to inquiries regarding archival program policies, procedures and services; provide publications, forms, and information; ensure that archival researchers are served properly and in accordance with public records laws, rules, and regulations;<\/p>\n

Assist in the management and preservation of the library collections focusing on botany and horticulture;<\/p>\n

Analyze, organize, index, and describe materials such as manuscripts, clippings, slides, and photographs specific to horticulture;<\/p>\n

Monitor and oversee stacks maintenance and space allotment;<\/p>\n

Monitor assigned budgets, cash receipts and funds;<\/p>\n

May train and provide direction to lower level staff including newer library staff, clerical staff, temporary or resident clerical staff, volunteers, or interns;<\/p>\n

Perform duties of Library and Archives Paraprofessional \u2013 Botanic Gardens 1;<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

High school graduation or equivalent and five years\u2019 experience in the functional operations of a library or archives, including one year beyond the entry level in an area of specialization.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
