{"id":5176,"date":"2024-03-24T18:46:47","date_gmt":"2024-03-25T01:46:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5176"},"modified":"2025-07-02T11:01:16","modified_gmt":"2025-07-02T18:01:16","slug":"library-specialist-ii","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/library-specialist-ii\/","title":{"rendered":"Library Specialist II"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18753 (NE S WFSE Libraries)<br \/>\n22795 (NE H NI WFSE Libraries)<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform library duties requiring intensive application of specialized knowledge, skills and expertise in a specific library subject, functional or special material area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Within the area of library specialization, perform library tasks such as original descriptive and subject cataloging and classification, system-wide support and consultation for resource acquisition and access, customized database development, specialized library materials conservation or preservation, or specialized reference and research consultation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general direction, within the area of library specialization, perform complex library duties and problem solving involving intensive application of expert knowledge and skills. Work at this level has limited opportunities for standardized solutions and is distinct from Library Specialist I in the requirement for application of judgment, creativity and experience to manage and resolve problems; decisions typically impact operation-wide processes and systems.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform original descriptive and subject cataloging and classification in accordance with established cataloging rules;<\/p>\n<p>Provide system-wide support and consultation for resource acquisition, access, and management services, involving content, funding, data analysis and interpretation, and policy development and implementation;<\/p>\n<p>Develop, manage, and troubleshoot customized databases and user interfaces which are key in structuring Technical Services workflow and staffing levels;<\/p>\n<p>Coordinate resource acquisition, access, and management services, involving content, data analysis and interpretation, and policy development and implementation;<\/p>\n<p>Represent UW libraries to publishers, agents, and consortia in the coordination and management of electronic resources.<\/p>\n<p>Perform library preservation such as evaluating collection materials; performing highly complex library materials conservation treatment; and developing creative solutions to unique materials housing, handling and storage needs;<\/p>\n<p>Provide classroom instruction on research process and methods in subject area of specialization, and provide by-appointment consultations for research problems requiring special expertise in the subject area of specialization.<\/p>\n<p>May direct the work of others;<\/p>\n<p>May serve as a foreign language resource person;<\/p>\n<p>Perform the duties of a Library Specialist I;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>High school graduation or equivalent AND five years of applicable library technical experience including two years in the area of specialization.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>12\/14\/1973: New Class<br \/>\n07\/01\/1981: Revise Class<br \/>\n07\/02\/1990: Revise MQ<br \/>\n08\/07\/1992: Revise Class<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18753 (NE S WFSE Libraries) 22795 (NE H NI WFSE Libraries) CLASS SERIES CONCEPT Perform library duties requiring intensive application of specialized knowledge, skills and [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":96,"featured_media":0,"parent":12,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_lmt_disableupdate":"no","_lmt_disable":"no","footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-5176","page","type-page","status-publish","format-standard","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
