{"id":5124,"date":"2024-03-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-25T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5124"},"modified":"2026-06-27T19:02:20","modified_gmt":"2026-06-28T02:02:20","slug":"maintenance-mechanic-1","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/maintenance-mechanic-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Maintenance Mechanic 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18814 (NE S WFSE Trades)<br \/>\n22807 (NE H NI WFSE Trades)<\/p>\n<p><strong>DEFINITION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Assist journeyworker and\/or perform work of a semi-skilled nature in the maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction of buildings, grounds, facilities and equipment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Positions in this class perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance duties requiring a limited knowledge of various trade skills such as carpentry, electrical, painting, etc. Positions may work either independently in routine maintenance assignments, or under the technical direction of a journeyworker.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Assist in the maintenance, operation and repair of electrical, mechanical and structural systems of buildings, grounds, and utility distribution;<\/p>\n<p>May assist journey tradesworkers by performing duties related to carpentry, painting, plastering, plumbing, steam-fitting, mechanical or electrical work, refrigeration maintenance, machinists trades, etc.;<\/p>\n<p>Assist in the fabrication of equipment and materials constructed in trades shops in accordance with project requirements;<\/p>\n<p>Operate power tools and equipment; operate automotive equipment to transport materials and supplies;<\/p>\n<p>May attend technical training courses;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>High school graduation or GED equivalent; OR, six month&#8217;s full-time related vocational study or training; OR, six months&#8217; applicable work experience; AND, one year&#8217;s full-time experience as a helper in building and equipment maintenance, construction, repair work, or equivalent.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>01\/03\/1973: New Class<br \/>\n07\/02\/1990: Revise MQ<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18814 (NE S WFSE Trades) 22807 (NE H NI WFSE Trades) DEFINITION Assist journeyworker and\/or perform work of a semi-skilled nature in the maintenance, repair, remodeling and construction of buildings, grounds, facilities and equipment.
