This class requires a good working knowledge of several related skill fields such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, and machinist work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on all types of mechanical equipment such as electrical drive motors, laundry, kitchen, and air-conditioning equipment; change oil, grease, change or clean filters, drive belts, sprockets, shafts, and bearings to ensure proper operation;<\/p>\n<p>Perform maintenance, operation, and repair of electrical, mechanical and structural systems of buildings and utility distribution;<\/p>\n<p>Operate hand and power tools in a skilled manner; fabricate material and equipment in workshops;<\/p>\n<p>Remodel and construct facilities in accordance with project requirements; assist in the preparation of engineering data under the direction of an engineer;<\/p>\n<p>Repair windows, doors, screens, floors, floor coverings, and painted surfaces; install, maintain, and repair electrical connections, switches, circuits, electrical equipment, thermostats, and valves;<\/p>\n<p>May perform minor maintenance on automobiles and equipment such as oil change, lubrication, fix flats, repair lights, fan belts, etc.;<\/p>\n<p>Develop preliminary cost estimates for installations and repairs;<\/p>\n<p>Drive service truck as required, load and unload materials and supplies;<\/p>\n<p>May lead or instruct helpers or other maintenance workers as required;<\/p>\n<p>May fire boilers on a relief basis;<\/p>\n<p>May assist, coordinate and\/or work with other trades and crafts journey personnel;<\/p>\n<p>May train students\/helpers in other skilled trade areas;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a journey worker, OR full-journey status in a union; OR four years&#8217; applicable work experience. Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
