{"id":5110,"date":"2024-03-24T18:19:40","date_gmt":"2024-03-25T01:19:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5110"},"modified":"2025-05-22T11:54:01","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T18:54:01","slug":"marine-engineer-second-assistant","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/marine-engineer-second-assistant\/","title":{"rendered":"Marine Engineer, Second Assistant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18970 (NE S IBU)<br \/>\n23247 (NE H NI IBU)<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Serve as second assistant engineering officer aboard an ocean research ship of approximately 2000 gross tons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general supervision, serve as second assistant engineering officer in the operation and maintenance of propulsion and auxiliary machinery of a diesel electric powered ocean research ship, 6000 HP.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stand engine room watch as operating engineer of propulsion or auxiliary machinery;<\/p>\n<p>Direct engineering department personnel as assigned;<\/p>\n<p>Instruct department&#8217;s in-service program in engineering;<\/p>\n<p>Provide direction to personnel doing routine maintenance and assist in emergency repair of propulsion or auxiliary machinery and electrical systems;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain operating and maintenance logs and records;<\/p>\n<p>Serve as principal assistant to Chief Marine Engineer for fueling operations;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Legal Requirement<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Coast Guard Second Assistant Engineer&#8217;s license valid for operation of a 6000 HP inspected ocean motor vessel.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>01\/03\/1973: New Class<br \/>\n06\/27\/1988: Revise Class<br \/>\n02\/15\/1991: Revise Class<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18970 (NE S IBU) 23247 (NE H NI IBU) BASIC FUNCTION Serve as second assistant engineering officer aboard an ocean research ship of approximately 2000 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":96,"featured_media":0,"parent":12,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_lmt_disableupdate":"no","_lmt_disable":"no","footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-5110","page","type-page","status-publish","format-standard","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
