{"id":5104,"date":"2024-03-24T18:16:56","date_gmt":"2024-03-25T01:16:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/?page_id=5104"},"modified":"2025-05-22T11:56:12","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T18:56:12","slug":"mariner-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hr.uw.edu\/comp\/classified-staff\/mariner-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Mariner 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>18977 (NE S IBU)<br \/>\n23254 (NE H NI IBU)<\/p>\n<p><strong>BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perform all skilled deck duties aboard an ocean research vessel of approximately 2000 gross tons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Under general supervision, responsible for deck duties such as operation and maintenance of deck machinery and small craft, routine hull and deck maintenance, line handling, and helm duties in restricted or inland waters.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lubricate and assist in maintaining machinery and rigging;<\/p>\n<p>Act as lookout; stand wheel watches in any waters;<\/p>\n<p>Stand security watches, as required;<\/p>\n<p>Chip, paint, and otherwise maintain deck and hull;<\/p>\n<p>Maintain rescue boats and rescue boat equipment; operate rescue boats and rescue boat handling equipment;<\/p>\n<p>Operate all scientific handling equipment such as &#8212; hydrographic winches, deep coring winch, A-frame, J-frame and all cranes;<\/p>\n<p>Load stores and assist in inventory;<\/p>\n<p>Assist in handling emergencies such as fire;<\/p>\n<p>Participate in training of mariner skills;<\/p>\n<p>Make expendable bathythermographic casts;<\/p>\n<p>Handle lines for berthing or leaving berth; handle anchors, operate windlass;<\/p>\n<p>Perform clean up work;<\/p>\n<p>Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Legal Requirement<\/p>\n<p>Appropriate U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner&#8217;s document endorsed as Able Seaman and required sea experience.<\/p>\n<p>Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CLASSIFICATION HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>01\/03\/1973: New Class<br \/>\n10\/12\/1973: Revise Title<br \/>\n06\/27\/1988: Revise Class<br \/>\n02\/15\/1991: Revise Class<br \/>\n06\/01\/2005: CSR Class Conversion<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW CODE AND REPRESENTATIVE GROUP 18977 (NE S IBU) 23254 (NE H NI IBU) BASIC FUNCTION Perform all skilled deck duties aboard an ocean research vessel of approximately 2000 gross [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":96,"featured_media":0,"parent":12,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_lmt_disableupdate":"no","_lmt_disable":"no","footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-5104","page","type-page","status-publish","format-standard","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
