CLASS SERIES CONCEPT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Diagnose malfunctions, maintain, repair, install, construct, and test electronic media and\/or multi-media equipment and systems. Provide media maintenance technical support.<\/p>\n

Perform repairs in a variety of working environments such as media centers, auditoriums, mobile sound systems, audio recording systems, electronic conference centers.<\/p>\n

This series is distinguished from the Computer Maintenance Technician series in that the installation, maintenance and repair of personal or other computers, other than computer equipment used in media production or as instructional media, is limited.<\/p>\n

This series is distinguished from the Electronics Technician series by working primarily on electronic media and\/or multi-media equipment and systems.<\/p>\n

This series is distinguished from the Broadcast Technician series by not performing radio and\/or television broadcast equipment operation, production, or programming activities.<\/p>\n

BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perform entry-level media maintenance work maintaining, repairing and testing media equipment.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under general supervision, perform entry-level maintenance and repair activities on media equipment such as repairing television monitors, videotape machines, video cameras, amplifiers, cassette recorders, film, slide and motion picture projectors; performing preventive maintenance; assisting in the installation of media equipment and systems; assisting faculty and staff with equipment operation problems.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair media equipment such as television monitors, video cameras, amplifiers, cassette recorders, film, slide and motion picture projectors, lighting systems;<\/p>\n

Use electronic test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, sweep generators, ohmmeters, multimeters, function generators, counters, waveform monitors and bridge capacitance meters to troubleshoot malfunction(s) to system, board or component level; Use hand and power tools such as drill presses, lathes, soldering guns, grinders, etc.;<\/p>\n

Perform mechanical or electronic repair to system, board or component level; calibrate and\/or test for proper operation;<\/p>\n

Perform preventive maintenance on media equipment; clean, adjust, repair, and calibrate;<\/p>\n

Assist in the installation of media equipment and systems such as updated audio-visual control systems in auditoria; closed circuit TV, public address, or antenna cable systems;<\/p>\n

Confer with faculty, staff, clients, vendors, students, and\/or supervisors in determining equipment problems or fulfilling service requirements;<\/p>\n

May direct the work of others;<\/p>\n

May set up media equipment for special events;<\/p>\n

May perform limited maintenance and repair on personal computers;<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two years of full-time experience\/training as an electronics technician<\/p>\n

OR<\/p>\n

An Associate’s Degree in electronics technology.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
