BASIC FUNCTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perform journey-level media maintenance work troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, installing, constructing, and testing media and\/or multi-media equipment and systems.<\/p>\n

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under general supervision, independently perform a variety of troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, construction, testing, and installation activities on media equipment and systems varying from the routine test, maintenance and repair of media equipment to the assembly and installation of audio-visual control, telecommunication, or satellite reception systems.<\/p>\n

TYPICAL WORK<\/strong><\/p>\n

Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, install, construct, and test various media equipment and systems such as television monitors, amplifiers, video cameras, 24 channel mixing consoles, video tape machines, satellite reception systems, audio mixing consoles, audio\/video distribution systems, cassette recorders, projectors, slide-sync audio recorders, audio recording\/processing equipment, theater lighting systems;<\/p>\n

Use electronic test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, sweep generators, oscilloscopes, ohmmeters, multimeters, logic probes, function generators, distortion meters, counters, waveform monitors, and bridge capacitance meters to troubleshoot malfunction(s) to system, board, or component level using diagnostic software as needed; Use hand and power tools such as drill presses, lathes, soldering guns, grinders, etc.;<\/p>\n

Perform mechanical, or electronic repair(s) to system, board, or component level; calibrate and\/or test for proper operation;<\/p>\n

Perform preventive maintenance on media equipment; clean, repair, adjust, and calibrate;<\/p>\n

Assemble and install media equipment and systems such as updated audio-visual control systems in auditoria; closed circuit TV, public address, or antenna cable systems;<\/p>\n

Use hand and power tools to construct parts and assemblies to meet sound and picture reproduction requirements; modify projection, audio and electronic equipment and build special parts or equipment to meet specific requirements;<\/p>\n

Maintain service manuals and records;<\/p>\n

Confer with faculty, staff, clients, vendors, students, and\/or supervisors in determining equipment problems or fulfilling service requirements;<\/p>\n

May set up media equipment for special events; may assist with studio booth operation;<\/p>\n

May direct and\/or coordinate the activities of equipment operators and other department personnel in the construction, distribution, installation, maintenance, and operation of audio-visual equipment;<\/p>\n

May perform limited maintenance and repair on computers.<\/p>\n

Perform related duties as required.<\/p>\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n

One year of experience as a Media Maintenance Technician I<\/p>\n

OR<\/p>\n

Three years of experience as media maintenance technician.<\/p>\n

Equivalent education and\/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and\/or registration.<\/p>\n
